I chose this laptop to replace my old hp pavilion, which also gave me chance to upgrade my software from xp to windows 8. The specification appeared to offer the best speed and performance in comparison to other similarly priced laptops. Since it arrived on time i have found that it has more than lived up to expectations as a good all round performer and would recommended it to novices and experienced users alike. The only downside i have experienced, is that windows 8. 1 is not compatible with my 7 year old lexmark 4300 printer, but i can still use my old laptop for that purpose until i get round to upgrading my printer.
Worth buying as good value for money. . It arrived promptly and well packaged. It was easy to set up and even managed to have it look a little like windows7 so not too bad. Got rid of a lot of microsoft stuff that i didn’t want and installed openoffice and picasa which i’ve always used. I somehow received an update and google chrome somehow got installed which i don’t like and had a little trouble trying to get back to internet explorer, but sorted in the end. It’s very quite, doesn’t get hot and is very quick. The overall appearance is a little plastic-looking, but for the price i think it’s brilliant and would definitely recommend it to anyone.

I have been using this laptop for a few weeks now and i love it. I was a little apprehensive at first about windows 8. 1 which a lot of reviewers complain about. I need not have been concerned. It is different to windows xp, windows vista, windows 7, etc but that does not mean that it is difficult to use or a poor operating system. All you need do is accept that it is different to what you have used before and get on with it. The laptop itself starts up very quickly and is very capable of running several programs at once. It has plenty of ran and storage.
An excellent laptop, great introduction to windows 8. An excellent laptop, great introduction to windows 8, (new to me) it is fast and even with a stack of programmes hasn’t seemed to have slowed appreciably. It keeps incredibly cool, noticeable when used on lap, start-up time very swift, good four to five hours use before needing recharge. Difficult to fault this machine.
I bought this laptop as an updated version of a previous toshiba laptop. I like the layout , finish and tile keys, however i don’t like the latest version of windows which is of no fault of toshiba, i think windows are producing inferior programmes in their haste to improve.
Toshiba Satellite C55-A-1UC 15.6-inch Laptop (Intel Core i3-4000M 2.4 GHz, 8 GB RAM, 1 TB HDD, Windows 8.1) – Silver : Good, fast laptop, but needs stripping down before use. . The laptop came with windows 8. 1 installed plus a load of trial software. Before connecting to the internet i would recommend uninstalling all the trial software that you dont wan’t (for me this was everything). I later installed openoffice free office package. I also sorted it to boot in desktop mode (much like windows 7) and made it all look more familair to me (move the mouse to bottom left hand corner of the screen and left click for starters). In desktop mode you can also use the right mouse button click to get something like the start menu once the mouse is down in that bottom left hand corner. 1 built in virus protection (windows defender). Not the factory installed one.
