This was delivered very promptly and i am happy with this product. Been looking around for a while and found this product with good price. It turned up,i started using it and have not looked back.
I bought this as a present for my parents. They’re really not technologically minded yet still found their way around easily in europe with this, which speaks volumes for the device. Really simple to use and does exactly what it was designed to do. Can’t recommend highly enough, and that’s from someone who has always resorted to maps as a personal preference but you can’t go wrong with this and all the stress is taken away.

Great intially but experienced problems within a year and tomtom will replace with a refurbished unit. Compact, solid well built unit with sucker for windscreen attached to the back of the unit, which is easily removable if you want to make the unit more slimline when removing it from the car. You can turn it the other way around if you want to use a dashboard disc (not included) to stick it to the dashboard. Anti glare screen, good responsive touch screen, good sound quality with excellent choice of voices. Has a about a three hour battery life. Speaks street names, excellent lane assist, speed cameras, timely instructions before and at a turn and uses iq technology to calculate the fastest route for the time of day. If you don’t like the route you can recalculate an alternative, travel via one stop and if there’s an obstruction you can enable a road block feature to re route your journey. Has a night mode button to dim the screen at night to make it easier on the eye and less distracting. You need to download tomtom home to your pc and then you can operate the device from the computer with automatic updates. Then you can add up to 48 favourites and unlimited points of interest without phaffing around in the car at the last minute.
I have had a tom tom go for several years – very good too. I’d purchased maps for foreign travel but kept losing the sd card and found it very difficult to get useful help from tom tom in locating on the computer, which files to use to create a replacement. In the end the go machine started giving me grief as well – and again the tom tom people were not helpful. To solve both problems i looked for a replacement – and isn’t it difficult to do so. The variety on the tom tom site doesn’t give a ‘compare’ facility and it’s not always clear from the descriptions what exactly is present. Same on the amazon site and the product names are different too – not so easy but a few hours analysis allows you to make some comparisons. This particular model is probably a bit small i think – but it works and it’s got all of western europe on in its memory so no need to change sd cards. You might want to delete some of the voices to free up space for upgrades, which you can get from the tom tom site after you’ve registered. The box contains a lead to connect to a usb hub and an adaptor to fit this to the dc outlet in your car.
My husband took great delight in planning all our journeys and he had a photographic memory of maps, luckily. Without him i am absolutely lost. Our son recommended tomtom and, with her lovely irish lilt, the voice is called dervla. She has undoubtedly saved my life/bacon on many occasions but, as my boy always says ‘do not second-guess dervla,’ so i just do as instructed and i get there.
TomTom Start Classic 3.5″ Sat Nav with UK and Western Europe Maps : This is my second sat nav, my first one being a very old siemens one which was way out of date and for which new software was to cost more than the price of this basic tom tom start. My first car journey with it was from lincoln to county durham, not a very taxing journey, being mostly a1 north bound, but i soon came to realise just how the tom tom style of indicating which lane to be in on motorways is a real boon to getting into the correct lane well in advance of needing to which is particularly useful on todays busy motorways. Tom tom also has a good system for updating on line and even offer accessories and different voices which can create a laugh and help to make a boring journey more fun, especially for kids (or even older kids like myself). I really recommend this sat nav as a basic starter if you are on a budget. It even has europe on it for those holiday trips to france and spain.
