I upgraded to this satnav from an older tomtom product. This was part of a promotion they were running. The new satnav is outstanding – the hd traffic facility (which checks in on traffic updates by a link to tomtom’s servers using the vodafone network) is simple, fast and very useful. Coupled with iq routes this has already diverted me twice to avoid traffic problems. The mapping is almost flawless – the odd minor issue resulting from minor map errors but nothing major. I have flagged these via mapshare and will see how soon the corrections arrive. Overall, i think this is a huge improvement on the previous system, and very much the way forward for satnavs. The ability to find local features (a hotel and a beach on separate occasions) by google search is amazing.
Got us from a to b without the need for maps :-).

I deliberated for a long time before taking the plunge. The decision was between this tomtom and the traffic version of the garmin nuvi. I decided on the tomtom, as magazine reviews said that the tomtom had a more comprehensive live traffic reporting service. Apparently the garmin’s traffic covers motorways and major roads only and as the traffic facility was the major reason for upgrading from my existing original tomtom satnav, tomtom it was. Out of the box, the bigger and clearer screen is a great improvement over my original tomtom. However, setting up the device started to show why this model has been heavily criticised elsewhere. I put in my address to define home to the device. Apparently number 3 in my street does not exist, neither does number 1 or 5. This is strange since my earlier tomtom recognised my address correctly.
Everything in the best order.
Top notch & thankyou for your quick service.
TomTom GO LIVE 1005 5″ Sat Nav with Europe Maps (45 Countries) : Brilliant in principle – flawed in quality control and support. I was happy with the tomtom when i first received it – until i discovered that i could not receive the live services which come free for the first year. The tomtom support was very poor – emails sent by one person and then by another who had not read the first. . Eventually they decided the sim card was at fault and wanted me to return the device for repairs. In my view the quality control at tomtom must be poor – the device should not have been sent out without proper testing. As the device was not fit for purpose i have returned it to amazon. However i am hoping this is not a systemic quality control issue and am (nervously) going for a replacement – because if it did work as advertised i think it could be a good product.
