I have eagerly awaited the probability to improve to the 940live. I now have a person ,i am a bit disappointed with the live services. I did not realise that the google /petrol costs/visitors/pace cameras are only free for three months. Velocity cameras and the petrol i was considering were for a calendar year ,google was usually likely to be cost-free. As i have paid out over £400 i am a little bit let down ,this is the third tom tom device i have owned (a one particular/a 720 and now a 940 ) i experience quite allow down ,i did know about the month-to-month demand but i did not assume it was for so quite a few of the things on the box ,and also no distant i was absolutely sure i did see a distant as in the box early on in the operate up to its release.

I have had a road angel 7000 for yrs which was excellent for me as a small business traveller – plenty of miles and want to know the place the cameras are . On the other hand the maps werent great and the performance wasnt the greatest. When i discovered out tomtom had signed up for the camera data it seemed like a best match. I plumbed for the 940 because i vacation a lot like the us and for a number of bob much more more than the 740 it isnt a hardship. – gps pickup is awesome – fewer than 10 secs and your on- liveupdate / site visitors updates etc each and every 3 minutes implies i get diverted round each individual site visitors jam – okay it fees me seven. 99 a month but its far better than sitting down on the m6 for 2 hrs a lot more than i have to have to observing the central reservation. – iq routes – simply just wonderful, the issue in fact learns your speedy routes so if your a community and know the state lanes are more rapidly than the major routes after one or two outings it will teach by itself to go your brief way .I understand it anonymously updates to the primary server far too so i guess i am receiving the best from absolutely everyone else much too .

I was a bit nervous about getting this having go through before testimonials. No regrets it worked straight out of the box. Getting played with the live providers they look as though they will be genuinely valuable. Site visitors updates are around immediate. There will be a membership expense but i was paying out for targeted traffic and security camera updates in any case. Installing the up to date maps did take a lengthy time but that is a operate of my broadband link. So significantly i imagine it is excellent and am hunting ahead to applying it.Here are the specifications for the TomTom GO 940 Satellite Navigation System – LIVE Worldwide:

I have had my 940 for just about a yr now and normally i am content with it. The most effective attribute is the live services which gets rid of some of the uncertainty when travelling up and down the motorway a large amount (like wot i do). It’s saved me rather a large amount of time about the last 12 months and it really is generally reputable despite the fact that you can by no means be confident how up to date the warnings are (a quantity of ‘jams’ appear to be to magically disappear as i’m driving as a result of exactly where they’re intended to be). Insignificant roadways usually are not lined (of training course) but most routes i push seem to be to be catered for. I also use the fm transmitter and have set up a 4gb micro sd card with mp3s on (it truly is a excellent shame it can’t participate in wmas). The arms no cost phone element is also reasonably very good. On the down side, it loses the means to link to my blackberry about once a week, necessitating a delicate reset (this is fairly rapid and you can do it safely on the fly). It also at times decides not to play music via the transmitter (most generally sorted by shifting the transmit frequency concerning the two preset values) but in some cases i also have to conduct a tender reset. On a number of events it’s also reset alone for no noticeable rationale.

Fantastic device but has a dilemma?. As with a preceding remark built in a assessment, this tom tom has a important monitor difficulty in sunlight. The display it truly is self is good but it’s the contast that results in the issue with reflection. If you have been to examine to previously types, you will take note the defention and distinction was excellent but i will not know why they have transform this. I have spoken to tom tom who say the screen structure and software are the very same as other products, but i have a 920 which is much further and richer with the colours than this 940. Tom tom are fantastic sat navs but the display this time is a worry.

Reviews from purchasers :

  • Great device – if a little geeky
  • Great unit but has a problem?

I have experienced this item for 6 months and was generally be sure to with it. But i have just returned it for a refund as it no extended masses the map updates. The merchandise came preloaded with the european and north american maps. I have been paying out for the monthly map updates. Sad to say, very last months two maps did not match on to the 4gb interior memory provided on the system. I contacted tomtom who originally advised me to purchase a memory card. When i declined this, they then encouraged me to manually delete some equipped languages from the european maps in get to load the american maps. When i requested them if i would require to do this each time i wished to upgrade the maps, they encouraged me that they were being not guaranteed but it was very likely. I experience that it was incorrect to promote a system with preloaded maps exactly where the inner memory would only aid 6 months of map upgrades.

I had a tom tom three hundred go and it gave good service for decades, so resolved to update to the 940 live and have not been let down. Does all it claims on the box, the live site visitors aspect is really helpful, and the truth that this sat nav gets linked to the satellite in milliseconds unlike the three hundred which took eternally. The voice feature is a bit shakey at situations, but am however in a position to have an understanding of what i am getting explained to. The cost for continuing the live assistance soon after three months looks a minimal steep, at £2 a 7 days. Truly feel for the revenue a circumstance could have been incorporated one was involved with older products. Pretty uncomplicated to navigate your way all-around this product, with loads of useful choices to opt for from. All in all i am genuinely satisfied with my 940 live – a worthwhile expenditure. Would propose to any person wanting a sat nav that does it all and then some.

Tom tom 940 world means just that. Great product, i’ve used it all over the world, i used an extra large sd card to make sure i could get on all the maps i use on my travels.

Well price satnav with good delivery time. Still going after all these years.
We are in 2013 and i still love my go 940 more than all the new tomtoms i purchased apart from the new features that don’t exist in my go940.

I chose to buy this product because i needed a good, efficient gprs navigator with us and european maps. When i used this product in the uk, it was quite impressive but once i updated the us map, it seems like the program slow down a bit. Sometimes when we were driving in the us, it would just switch off by itself and we would have to switch it back on again. We did a cross country trip and sometimes we would drive up to 4 hours a day. I was a bit disapointed, there was no voice instructions with the us map. Sometimes the satnav was slighlty slower so we missed a few turnings and then it took a while to relocate another route. The points of interest were a bit crap. Overall, tom tom did not deliver, it does not do what it says in the package.

Good but poorly functioning features. I bought this unit for three feature just before taking a holiday,1. The fm transmitter and jukebox feature for music as i have no other means of playing mp3s in the car3. Bluetooth hands free feature as i don’t have that. In short, the software is very buggy for anything other than basic navigation, and the live services cost too much for what they provide. I wish i’d bought a cheaper unit as the extra features don’t seem to work properly. The only other difference is the amount of ram, and it’s unclear what that does for you in practical terms. Navigation – great, just as i expect from a tomtom.

I’ve had my 940 for just about a year now and generally i’m happy with it. The best feature is the live services which removes some of the uncertainty when travelling up and down the motorway a lot (like wot i do). It’s saved me quite a lot of time over the last year and it’s generally reliable although you can never be sure how up to date the warnings are (a number of ‘jams’ seem to magically disappear as i’m driving through where they’re supposed to be). Minor roads aren’t covered (of course) but most routes i drive seem to be catered for. I also use the fm transmitter and have installed a 4gb micro sd card with mp3s on (it’s a great shame it can’t play wmas). The hands free phone feature is also reasonably good. On the down side, it loses the ability to connect to my blackberry roughly once a week, necessitating a soft reset (this is pretty quick and you can do it safely on the fly). It also sometimes decides not to play music through the transmitter (most often sorted by changing the transmit frequency between the two preset values) but sometimes i also have to perform a soft reset. On a few occasions it’s also reset itself for no obvious reason.

A good sat nav with lots of useful and some not that useful features. The go 940 live is a very good satnav in my view. The features that i found positive about are:1. Mp3 player – the allegedly more modern and apparently more popular go 950 model does not seem to have a mp3 player – but this model go 940 has one. Has a fm transmitter which can transmit the music played by the built in mp3 player to a frequency you can adjust – so you can get the music going in your car while you drive with the satnav. However the navigational instructions can not be transmitted (apparently it would be illegal to do so) via fm but have to be heard either through the built-in speaker, line-out socket (which needs you to buy a new active docking fixture from tomtom – and it is expensive) or through blue tooth if you have it on your car stereo. This means the volume of navigational instructions are independent of the music volume and thankfully the music gets muted when the navigational instructions are read out. Has a bluetooth handsfree function which is useful. Voice recognition feature is a handy addition though its accuracy is a bit suspect. The negative aspects i found are:1. The mp3 player is a very basic one – even though it can use a play list in the form of ‘. Pla’ files that can be easily generated, it is a bit fiddly to operate the mp3 player – if you want to change the song being played.

I have had this item for 6 months and was generally please with it. But i have just returned it for a refund as it no longer loads the map updates. The item came preloaded with the european and north american maps. I have been paying for the monthly map updates. Unfortunately, last months 2 maps did not fit onto the 4gb internal memory supplied on the device. I contacted tomtom who initially advised me to buy a memory card. When i declined this, they then advised me to manually delete some supplied languages from the european maps in order to load the american maps. When i asked them if i would need to do this each time i wanted to upgrade the maps, they advised me that they were not sure but it was likely. I feel that it was wrong to sell a device with preloaded maps where the internal memory would only support 6 months of map upgrades.

I have been using the go 940 for a month now and it is brilliant. I had been using smartnav for over 5 years and it was a difficult choice between updating with a new smartnav or buying the go 940. Unfortunately smartnav have not responded to the changing market as their prices both for installation and subscriptions are sky-high. I think i made the right decision as the go is not only cheaper (even when you factor in the cost of map updates, the live service subscription is quite a bit cheaper) but also more flexible (no extra cost for europe, covers usa and you can use it in any vehicle). The hd live traffic works really well (similar to smartnav but works on different technology and i believe it has greater coverage) and the gps locks really quickly. Minor gripes include a less-than-thorough manual (i feel i may be missing out on useful options), small icons for speed camera speed limits (if there is a way to make them bigger i have been unable to find it) and the need to connect to a pc to carry out updates (why can’t these happen automatically in-car?). The free update to current map was quite well hidden but i eventually found it. Overall these do not detract from a 5-star product.
