The new apple sat-nav, the igo. ✚✚✚✚✚✚✚✚✚✚✚✚✚✚✚✚✚✚✚✚✚✚✚—- updated (16/06/15) review begins —-✚✚✚✚✚✚✚✚✚✚✚✚✚✚✚✚✚✚✚✚✚✚✚*** i try to update this review regularly, but to see the full (and current) list of software updates, visit the tomtom website here http://bit. This review relates to software version 15. 202 and all previous ***this is an in depth product review (updated after around 24 months use) for tomtom’s premium navigation device, the go 6000 (but will also largely apply to any of the go x0, go x00/x10 and go x000/x100 devices – for this reason, i have also placed this review within their respective pages). My aim is to provide an honest viewpoint that will help you make a decision about purchasing, whether you’re a complete newcomer to sat-navs, or use them on a daily basis. In certain aspects, i will compare this device to my previous sat-nav, a tomtom go live 1005 world. In recent reviews of tomtom’s latest sat-navs i have seen a worrying trend of consumers buying a product without really realising what that specific model can, and more importantly can’t do. I will attempt to enlighten you all. ✚✚✚✚✚✚✚✚✚✚✚✚✚✚✚✚✚✚✚✚✚✚✚—- tomtom go x0/x00/x10/x000/x100 product range differences —-let’s get this out the way. Around may/june 2015, tomtom updated most of their lines of sat-navs, which makes updating this review more than a little complicated. The reason being, just because tomtom no longer sell certain models on their website, doesn’t mean that you can’t still buy them, so i will try and encompass every model of the go that you can currently purchase – here goes. Go series = three ranges:there are essentially three ranges of sat-navs within the go series.

Bought this directly from tomtom. Don’t know why, but there was no carry case in my parcel. I guess tomtom loves one of the previous reviewers just a little bit more than me :)the device itself looks nice, pretty quick recalculating the route if you missed the turn (nope, i wasn’t doing it on purpose, wink-wink). Searching for an address or a place is a bit of a hassle for me, maybe because i was using garmin before. Syncing with mydrive works like a charm. I’ve noticed one strange thing – sometimes i’m looking for a place (which is not recently built) and can’t find it and i’m about to edit the map and add this place, then i can see that it’s already there. ⊙_⊙ then i’m looking for this place again and just can’t find it. But not sure if it’s allowed here. What really surprised me is that there’s no way to connect your phone to your tomtom (you know – hands-free calling and all that stuff) why tommytommy, why???. My 6 year old garmin was able to do that, why on earth new, modern, stylish tomtom can’t?but there’s of course something very positive – free maps, traffic and speed cameras updates. For older models you have to buy this on a yearly basis (or google word ‘torrent’ if you still not familiar with it, triple wink), this one comes with free updates, which is nice and saves you few coins in the long run. All in all nice device, but the feeling that it could be much nicer is still there.

Tom tom 5100 first thoughts after a tom tom 750 live. . **** latest update ****it would seem that you need a usb socket with high amperage to actually charge this device rather than just supply power to use. I noticed that within 10 minutes of disconnecting the device the system would report ‘low battery’ and shutdown. I changed my usb adapter in the car to a 2. 1a output device and tried again. Seems to have made a difference and the device now retains a charge beyond 10 minutes. Please can we have a different compass arrow. ;-)***** 3 week use update*****i’ve raised the review from 3 to 4 stars. Pros:great screen that hasn’t scratched despite needing cleaning everyday. Smooth scrolling display with a good selection of colour options.

First impressions are excellent. . I have only used the device for 1 trip through eastern europe, an area where a lot of these devices sometimes do not function very well, but the 5100 did quite well considering i did not have full instructions as it was the non uk model and handbook was in german which i do not understand. It accepted nearly all the addresses i put in, except a hotel in macedonia it did not recognise, but it did accept the co-ordinates which took us to the door of the hotel. I would need to use it a few more times to see just how good it is, but so far seems to do what it’s supposed to. I live in bulgaria, and the last go i had only recognised about half of the country, so we will just wait and seejust disappointed that the handbook is not multi-lingual as most devices are nowadays, otherwise 5 star.

The new go 6100 – a true premium navigation device. ✚✚✚✚✚✚✚✚✚✚✚✚✚✚✚✚✚✚✚✚✚✚✚disclosure:i was kindly supplied this item free of charge to test and evaluate. In exchange, i agreed to provide an honest review detailing my thoughts. ✚✚✚✚✚✚✚✚✚✚✚✚✚✚✚✚✚✚✚✚✚✚✚*** i try to update this review regularly, but to see the full (and current) list of software updates, visit the tomtom website here http://bit. I don’t leave home without it. I have a company car that does not have sat nav, what an amazing item, clear sharp screen, easy to use, if there is a traffic issue – the sat nav will prompt you for analternative route. If you are in an average speed camera area, it will calculate your average speed. The mount is much better than previous mounts and holds the sat nav without you worrying if it will come loose.

I have been a tomtom owner for over 20 years so am on my third model the 610 the last one was the tomtom xl i have had small problems with the first two units but it was still easier having help in getting places that you have never been to before and i am a well travelled man in the uk. Now the 610 i love setting up new gadgets but i think that comments that have already been made regarding the initial setting up of this new unit are valid i. E 1) no proper manual provided you have to go online and download one, 2) it takes at least two hours to download and upgrade the unit before you can use it. 3) not provided with an sd card and without it you only have about 50 mbs memory left on the internal memory. 4) the on off button is hard to find but when you think you have turned the unit off it comes back on when you put it into its protective case once you zip it up. 5) battery life is very short it has to be plugged in when you want to use it for a while. 6) i have immediately ordered a screen protector as i have done with my old ones that’s why they are always in good nick and easy to read. I could go on a bit more these reasons are why i have given 4 stars not five i hope that you guys at tomtom will address these issues especially the software my xl i had to open up an account in my wife’s name because you don’t allow the same person to have two different units using the software ????.Anyway it’s early days i am anxiously looking forward to try out my go 610 i will be back.

It gets you from a to b and on to z. Only drawback i can see is that there are quite a few options unavailable in the new tom tom range that were available in the older ranges. It does feel more slimline to use.

Googlemaps is still better when you get near your destination or in heavy traffic though.

I was disappointed that israel/jordan were not in it. As i had it for world maps , i was disappointed that israel/jordan were not in it, as i needed it for these countries first. Tom tom promised that they will be available soon. I got it with computer voices from some south european countries. Tom tom has made english and dutch for me available. Speedcamera updates for life: only for europe.

The big screen means that i can. The big screen means that i can read it from the driving position. It seems to know what it is supposed to do, although i have yet to get it giving warnings of radar traps. I’m sure i shall do so eventually.

Excellent device; i had a start 25 model before this one and the difference is huge, especially in the speed of giving you a new recalculated route (probably the result of the increased cpu speed), but mostly in the quantity of information displayed. This is not due to the bigger display (5” for start 25 compared to 6” for go6100) but mostly to increased definition (480×272 compared to 800×480); this is giving you the chance to have more information displayed without overlapping and confusion – actually the image you get looks cleaner and is more readable on go 6100; sure, the difference exists in price too, but this is compensated by the lifetime subscription for maps and traffic; the new feature ’always connected’ seems nice too (it is based on an internal sim card, but no cost for the data traffic is applied, even if abroad)the only problem you can have with this device is that being bigger in size and heavier, the mount on the windshield – based on a suction cup mounting – can fail and the device is dropping usually in the worst possible moment; much more reliable is the dashboard mount which can be done by an adhesive disk or by a beanbag (i am using this last one and is quite perfect).

Excellent flagship product but with a couple of issues. After 10 years with my trusty tomtom go 910 and a pending trip to australia i thought it time to upgrade. This flagship product has much going for it. The large touchscreen is awesome (although extremely sensitive) and compared to my previous tomtom is light and more intuitive. I did experience some issues downloading updates etc but that might have been due to having 2 tomtoms registered. The update process does take a while. I guess my main concern relates to a product which features worldwide maps but then has so little internal memory (ridiculously small) that you have to have/get a micro sd card. So when i downloaded australia maps (very easy) i lost the european maps. Fortunately i had a spare micro sd card and this fixed the problem. This issue is not made clear which i think is misleading.
