Seems excellent through london. Seems excellent through london. Very different layout to earlier models but user friendly all the same. However one ridiculous point is that the battery gave no warning of running out. It just came out with a message saying battery low shutting down. . Reboot then wait to start again. It is brilliant at missing traffic but i will never use again unless plugged in.
It’s worth paying a bit more as it’s very quick in navigating, easy to use and very responsive. I never had trouble with it. I definitely prefer this sat nav over other brands.

The best satnav i have ever owned. I wanted to give this a thorough testing before i reviewed it. I have used it every day both locally and across the country. When i first received the item i was frustrated to find that the live services would not work no matter what i tried. I was on the verge of sending the unit back but i contacted customer support who were very apologetic and professional in their response. It turned out that a batch of these units had a fault with the live service but it was at tom tom’s end and not a fault with the unit itself. They said a fix was being sought and they would contact me once it had been done. Sure enough after 5 days they contacted me and said the live service would now be active. I switched on my tom tom and it was working fine and has been ever since. In way of an apology tom tom sent me a semi hard case for my 5100 free of charge, so full marks to customer services.
Proved excellent on a 3 week trip around europe. Proved excellent on a 3 week trip around europe, the traffic and speed camera info proving excellent. As many others have pointed out the processor is a little lacking but that is primarily noticeable at boot up and doesn’t impinge on performance during navigation. Purchased as a warehouse deal for £181. 50 which i would consider fair value.
TomTom GO 5100 5 inch Sat Nav with World Maps (Sim Card and Unlimited Data Included) – Black : Excellent, but is this a dying breed?. Bought one of these over a year ago to replace another tomtom device that i had to pay for new maps and live traffic on. This one has those, plus speed camera updates for life for free. Downside is that updating maps requires you to take device into the house and spend an hour or more updating, for major releases. I believe the new 6200 downloads new maps from the car over its own sim. Great development, but not reason for me to change. Basically these are the best satnavs you can buy. You pay for the best of course. It is far from perfect though. Its much easier to find a restaurant or whatever with google maps to be honest.
