Perfectly balanced and comfortable. . I bought these as a replacement for my old ipod headphones, not because i was unhappy with the ipod ones, but just because i wanted something that gave me more quality. I’d read all the reviews saying that these had higher bass output, and cleaner frequency response. To be honest, the ipod headphones pump out more bass than any other in ear headphone i’ve tried. The ipod phones have a very ‘scooped’ sound. Loads of bass, and loads of treble, but the midtones have been curved out. They do sound very clear and do not buzz as people have said in reviews. That may happen if you play your ipod or portable player using an eq preset with very high output, that exceeds the headphone’s output capacity. Generally, the vast majority of records and music sold out there has been mastered to be listened on a stereo system with the equaliser set flat. The mastering process is where the artist or producer (or master mixer) decide what frequencies the music should pump out.
Had these headphones for just over a year and a half. Absolutely no trouble with them. Been using them nearly everyday, ether with my sony minidisc player and my 40gb ipod. These headphones don’t stop till its hurting. Work well under high volume and frequencies. I left the headphones in my jeans the other day by accident, and my mom put them in the wash, i was thinking ‘great going to have to buy a new set’ and to my utter surprise they still bloody work. I really don’t think your gonna will find a better set of headphones for £15?.

Having tried pretty much all the earphones on the market, i can safely say that these are the best overall by far. The fit is comfortable, especially when you’ve been using them for a few days, and they literally never fall out of your ears. The sound is excellent, with bass and high-frequency levels both very well represented (which is unusual for earphones). They’re sturdy and sustain continual use without breaking. Lastly, the price is excellent for the quality, and means you’re not blowing a huge amount of money on earphones that can easily be lost or broken. I’ve been using these earphones for about five years (though the modern design is slightly changed). I’ve had to replace my earphones twice and each time, after trying everything else out there, i’ve come back to these. Reliable, superior and inexpensive. A minor caveat – if you’re used to sharing earphones, these aren’t the ones to buy as they mould themselves to your ear shape.
I’ve had these for about a year and a half (i paid a lot more though, be sure to get them from amazon), and they have served me very well in terms of sound quality and comfort. The bass response, as others have said, is extremely good, as is the sound quality. However, and this is a big drawback (hence only 3 stars), the cord is made of horrible rubber which can easily wear if you aren’t careful – i’ve been lucky not to have this happen. I found that the connector gets worn when it is plugged into any input and so can cause crackling since there seems to be an imperfect contact (also the connector is not gold plated as with some alternatives). The worst problem is that the rubber mouldings that fit in your ear gather dirt and wax which is impossible to clean, and this eventually causes the rubber to split, ruining the essence of the earphones. If you are willing to keep buying new ones every year, then you won;t complain about the sound and comfort – however, if you want a lasting pair of headphones, look elsewhere (as i now need to after mine split).
Great sound, but not great lifespan. . I have been looking for a new pair of earphones for my ipod for a while as the standard ipod earphones have quite poor bass response and clarity, which is something i look for when listening to music. I was initially seduced by the great reviews the sennheiser cx300’s were getting on amazon and so bought a pair, but was massively disappointed with the tinny, thin sound they produced. I had a pair of sony earphones from this range (groove shaped bass boosters) some years ago and loved them, so i gave these a try, and am glad to say they were exactly what i was looking for. The bass is rich, the frequency range is broad, and they are comfortable to wear. Some people have commented that they do not provide enough treble, but this is easy fixed by adapting your eq if you are that way inclined. The only reason that i have not given these earphones a 5 star rating is that the build quality is a bit patchy (my old ones stopped working in one ear after about a year and a half), but at this price i don’t mind buying a new pair when that happens. If you like your music with good bass and sound clarity, no distortion, and through comfortable earphones then buy these.
Sony MDR-ED21LP Groove Shaped Earpiece headphones (discontinued by manufacturer) : Great headphones, great bass, i’ve used them for years. . I keep coming back to these headphones, they’re just great. I first bought a pair about 5 years ago and was so impressed with the quality of the bass, other headphones just sound so tinny compared to these. The in-ear shape is unique and allows the sound to be delivered right into the depth of your ear, a clever design. I’ve had various phones and mp3 players over the years and always use these headphones, they are better than any that have come with any of the phones or players. Better than iphone headphones too. At anything less than £15 they are a bargain, i recommend them highly.
