High quality sound with depth and clarity. To run this you are going to need 4 power outlets as each speaker requires its own. You may also need a hand to carry the box as it is big, heavy and awkward to carry. Once out of the box the individual pieces are a bit more manageable. The sound bar is a very sleek looking speaker set that has a high quality look and feel to it. A flat low profile tapered bar that will sit neatly in front of your tv, or if you prefer, you can put it behind and bring a small discreet ir receiver to the front. I recommend in front of the tv where nothing can interfere with the sound. If you are using this with anything under a 40 inch screen, the it may look a bit out of proportion as it is very long. The subwoofer is a lump of a box and a bit of an elephant in the room, but it isn’t ugly and does blend in with the rest of the audio visual gear. The rear speakers are a smaller profile and can easily be tucked away behind the sofa if you don’t want them on show.
Sound quality is fine, but it’s let down by some of the. Updating this review, the problems i had with hdmi sync were being caused by a bad hdmi cable, and it’s now working correctly, even bitstreaming dts-hd and dolby true-hd from my pc. Sound quality is fine, but it’s let down by some of the flakiest hdmi sync problems i’ve ever experienced. Changing between connected hdmi devices is a lottery, sometimes it works, sometimes you have to unplug the hdmi device or even power cycle the soundbar to get it connect at all, and the arc implementation simply doesn’t work. I’m sure it’s fine if all your devices are sony, but with anything else be prepared for frustration.

Really good system for the average home. This is my second attempt at a 5. 1 surround sound system, previously spending more on a highly rated system, only to send it back as faulty, and the parts that did work, disappointed. For the audiophiles out there who can distinguish the slightest variances in sound quality, i cannot give you a in depth review of bass and treble, but here is what i really like about this system. Wireless – no wires trailing around my living room, it is all connected by bluetooth so is pretty discreet. In fact the bluetooth field is so good i can connect my amazon echo from 2 rooms away, listening to my music in full 5. You don’t have to use it if you don’t want to – my wife is a bit of a technophobe, and the last system i returned had to be turned on before the signal from my sky box or ps3 could be viewed on my tv. With this system just switch on your device, the anynet connection will turn on your tv, and the sound will just come from the tv speakers. The beauty of this is that if i am out, i don’t have to try to explain the workings of several remote controls to my wife.
What wasn’t made clear to me is just how cut off you are from controlling all the extras when you are not using the speakers connected up to a tv. I use them to go along with my projector and play movies from my laptop. But the control menu so often referred to in the instruction manual does not appear on my laptop screen. I have tried to find an app to fix this but no luck. Will have to call their helpline. God help me, my time and my wallet.
Stunning looks, easy to setup, superb sound, and no more speaker cable. Slight issues with the songpal app and creating groups at the moment though.
Sony HT-RT5 Soundbar with 2 Wireless Rear Speakers (550 W, S-Master HX, Clear Audio Plus, Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and NFC) – Black : Ordered this after having it demonstrated by a sony rep at a well known store (tried to buy there but no stock) but was still a little concerned about comments on volume. Well its not loud – compared to my old 5. 0 system that could rattle the house – but its more than adequate; using it at a level of 40 out of 50 and it gets complaints from the wife in the next room. Quality is “in the ear of the beholder” – i am fed up with mumbling actors but find the clarity at standard settings very clear and sharp, even with well known mumblers and there are a range of sound selections available to easily adjust to the output to suit (spectre and saving private ryan in movie mode is fantastic. The dogs seem to like it as well, crufts had them both staring at the front speaker then looking behind the tv for the dog. Set-up is quick and easy and you don’t get dozens of pages of techno-gibberish in the manual, plenty of hdmi sockets and no trailing speaker leads.
