Excellent picture quality with some minor cosmetic gripes. This arrived for me at the weekend and although i haven’t had a chance to really test it to it’s full capabilities here are my thoughts so far. Out of the box, the camcorder is a reasonable size. It fit’s comfortably in one hand and isn’t too heavy and it seems of quite high quality although the little strap that goes round your hand could do with being a bit bigger and have more of an adjustment range on it’s fitting. The flip out viewing screen is surprisingly large and well lit and a lot of the features and settings are controlled from here using it’s touch screen interface. The interface is a bit of a pain, a lot of the buttons are a little too small and the touch screen doesn’t seem particularly responsive with it sometimes taking a couple of finger stabs at the screen to press the setting you want. Also it has quite a narrow viewing angle and is a fairly low resolution so you wouldn’t want to be using it for playback too much. One feature is that it has a short usb cable attached but this is a waste in my opinion. The lead on it is too short to be of any practical use so i’m guessing most people will be forced to use the extension usb it comes with 99% of the time making it a bit pointless. It doesn’t come with any form of memory device so you’ll need to buy a separate memory card before you can use it.
Competent, reasonable quality, but not essential. Nowadays, regular stills cameras and even smartphones shoot hd video, so the appeal of the dedicated camcorder has waned somewhat. But if video is your main hobby and of more value to you than photographs, i’m sure a dedicated device is the way to go. This sony camcorder shoots great quality full hd video and has a 30x zoom, so its capable in most situations. The device is small and light, so its easy to carry around. Simple use is very straightforward, so you will be up and running in no time. More complicated features are accessed from the flip-out touchscreen, and these are reasonably easy to access but not helped by the fiddly screen, which isn’t always terribly responsive and features icons small enough to make using them a bit of a challenge. Storage is on a micro sd card, which is not included in the box, and naturally you’ll be wanting to get a class 10 card for best video writing performance. Transfer of video from the card is about as quick as you would expect, but if you’re really in a hurry you can edit on board. This is very basic but useful if you want to quickly tart up your film a bit for upload onto youtube or whatever.

Some comments about the sony pj620. Well it takes good quality videos and the sound amplifiers are good. The optical stabilisation is superb. This is definately a ‘set it up and then leave it alone ‘ camera – what i mean is that using any manual mode is not really practical. I bought this as a ‘run and gun’ backup and for that it works well. Pick it up, start record, and go. I use an external mic with it. Sony’s proprietary hot shoe – deliberately designed to make you buy only sony accessories – a disgrace. Adapters are hard to get – i made my own.
With the camera shoe can you put extra light’s into it?.
Camera seems fine however bought together with offered memory card. Camera seems fine however bought together with offered memory card, only one problem the 64gb sd memory card doesn’t fit in this unit. The unit didn’t even come with a microsd in the box so have now had to order a microsd card at extra expense before i can use it. Looked on the order and there is no option to feedback to amazon in free form, hence why putting it on here. I could ask for a replacement or refund but as i luckily have a camera that takes this type of card have decided to keep the sd card. No option on order feedback for issue with order but keeping products.
Sony HDR-PJ620 Full HD Camcorder with Built-In Projector (30x Optical Zoom, Balanced Optical SteadyShot, Wi-Fi and NFC) : The sony play stuff for desktop interaction with the camera and your movie/photo collection is not that useful and behaves very. For the simple case of shoot and edit this mostly works. You can use usb or take out the stick to transfer files off it – although watch out because the higher quality videos are in a private/streams folder not the more obvious ones. The projector is totally a gimmick – used it once to try it out – do not buy this for that capability. The sony play stuff for desktop interaction with the camera and your movie/photo collection is not that useful and behaves very poorly on a high-resolution windows 10 laptop – it doesn’t handle font scaling, and doesn’t quite render. The wifi system is fairly limited – you can only stream through the very expensive ustream service – you cannot stream to a local machine and you can forget any nice picture in picture type work when doing so. There is also no ability to send the live stream via usb. You can remote control from a phone wifi. If you intend to do live streams for a media channel – avoid this camera.
