Works well, 5th unit, smarthings is great.

Works well, just a bit pricey. Works well, just a bit pricey when you are buying then in the 10s of units for all your doors and windows.

I’m a lightwaverf user (it’s an alternative home automation system). I have 20ish on/off plugs and relays. The system is good – but without the ability to see a devices current ‘state’ and a ‘hub to device’ only network – i wanted more reliability. When i clicked ‘on’ i wanted to know it would be on – wherever i was in the world. So i purchased this smartthings hub – the app interface is great, it’s also got basic necessary features that lightwaverf just seems to miss – like the ability to rename devices and move them from room-to-room. It also has monitoring (device specific) so you can see power consumption – and supports amazon alexa command ‘outside lights on’.The ability to have a sensor in your garage turn on your hallway lights and other cool tricks mean most people will be very happy with this system. Here are the specifications for the Samsung SmartThings Starter Kit –:

  • Enter your model number
    to make sure this fits.
  • SmartThings is the easy way to turn your home into a smart home
  • Control, automate and monitor your home from anywhere using the SmartThings app
  • The Samsung SmartThings Home Monitoring Kit contains: One Samsung SmartThings hub, two Samsung SmartThings multipurpose sensors, one Samsung SmartThings motion sensor and one Samsung SmartThings outlet
  • Get immediate alerts on your smartphone if there’s unexpected entry or motion in your home
  • Secure dangerous, valuable or off-limit areas of your home

Cheapest product in the category and works great.

Although i bought this somewhat late in our move to a smart home, it has been really easy to adapt. It works with belkin, osram and philips smart things among others, as well as with alexa (amazon echo or echo dot). It is simple to set up and is very responsive. If i were to be starting from scratch with smart home, i would buy the samsung samsung smartthings starter kit – white starter kit. Reviews from purchasers :

  • Cheapest motion sensor around
  • Works with Fibaro and alexa.
  • Best purchase to date

Overal fantastic, buy some spare batteries as they resolve any problems that start occurring.

Very good item, connects to my wemo bulbs better and. Very good item, connects to my wemo bulbs better and quicker than original belkin hub. Quite big range of third party devices can be connected to it.

Ok but stock up on batteries. . Since the recent hub firmware update they appear to work as intended. However battery life is very disappointing, i’m getting roughly 6 weeks use from a brand new battery.

Good little multi sensor, paired to the smarting hub instantly. Can measure contact, temperature, acceleration & battery status. I have one of mine linked up to my front door so that if its after sunset & someone comes in the door, my hall way lights come on. Very pleased with them & have purchased a few.

Having used three of these units since december 2016, i can say that they’re ok – and only ok. They are easy to set up as you’d expect, but i do not find them reliable. When they’re connected and working, everything is fine – but they seem to drop off the network and then i have to remove them and re-add them to get them working again. Battery life has been fine despite the random reading you get in the app. One day it’s telling me it’s 67% after just two weeks, the next day, it’s up to 89% and has remained there since january. Now i have two of these that have disappeared and i cannot get them to pair any longer. I have ensured there is plenty of other devices in the area to ensure good network coverage, but this hasn’t made any difference, and these units worked in situ and i’ve not changed anything. Additionally, the battery compartment is a terrible design. It’s almost impossible to remove the battery.

Tiny plug does what its intended to. . Out of the box it connected to the smartthings hub and was working in seconds. Important safety: because its hidden in tiny print in the manual max 10a – and not ip rated (it would be dangerous to install it anywhere like a kitchen / steam or bathroom same issue. )the unit is quite small, but still causes a protrusion from the outlet, an honest opinion is like any adapter use it where its not likely to be a trip hazard especially if you have anyone or pets who have a tendency to fall over things. Working it has a fairly decent range, and this could be because of z-wave meshing of courseworks with smartthings hub and alexa.

So clearly there is a bad batch. The others are going ok so far. I’ve had one go faulty so far. So clearly there is a bad batch. The others are going ok so far and i purchased them in april 2017. Sometimes the sensor thinks it’s still open, but a refresh on the app sorts it. There are probably better options out there, but they cost more.

Useful introduction to automating your home. . This is a very useful introduction to automating your home. Installation is terribly simple. What is critical is that you download the app first – it is called “smart things mobile”. This tells you how to set the system up – just follow the instructions. All you have to do is to connect hub to your router using the supplied ethernet cable, and then plug the power cable into the hub. Then connect the peripherals that come in the box (which samsung calls “things”) – you get two multipurpose sensors, one motion sensor, one presence sensor and one power outlet. You can use the motion sensors to, for example, monitor if anyone enters a room. Arm your system when you go out by tapping on the icon in the app.

Voice controlled smart home with alexa. . Installed the hub in around 20 mins and had switches turning on and off with voice control only moments later. Paired up with alexa for voice controlled smarthome.

Simple to setup and fairly good product compatibility. Works well and fairly easy to use. There are more complex systems available but this can do most things the vast majority of people will need.

Ok but mine stopped working. It is in many ways nice, i had to modify the fittings as my door and frame are not flush but it worked like a charm until one day the connection kept dropping until it finally stopped working. I tried all the published methods but it was eventually dead, especially after i took a screwdriver to it in frustration.
