Excellent addition to smart home.
I have these practically all over my house now – probably to the bewilderment of the neighbours. With third party apps and a hue bridge (purchase separately or in a starter set) it’s possible to turn your house into a riot of colour changing. The range of colours is impressive and they work seamlessly with echo, samsung smart things and apps such as ifft – i have them set up with all of these to greet me when i arrive home or flash when a timer on echo comes to an end – the possibilities are endless. These bulbs certainly have added fun to my home – work well and are a quality item.
. Overall the bulbs are a nice improvement from the older ones. Certain colors such as red and blue shine better than the older bulbs. My biggest issue with them aren’t the bulbs but the hue app to control them. It’s annoying to use, hard to navigate and get used to and overall just bad. However a number of third party apps are available some free others paid that will correct that. More importantly they work great with alexa. With one of these bulbs in every socket i no longer have to worry about where light switches are as some of them are in inconvenient locations. I can be laying in bed and use my tablet or an echo/dot to turn off the light without having to get out of bed when i’m half falling asleep and then return to bed more awake. I don’t have to worry about a bedside reading lamp as the light that covers my entire room can be turned off by voice or tablet. They are also dimmable which is nice when reading in bed or for a more theater like experience with some light available. - Review for Philips Hue White & Colour (2015 version)
Review for philips hue white & colour (2015 version). I now own 14 philips hue lights in some form or another. This review is for the hue edison screw bulb. If you already own a hue bridge and bulbs, you’ll know what they are capable of. This is the newer version which was released in late 2015. On the white light settings, it is slightly brighter than the older model. There is no noticeable difference on the colour settings. This bulb suffers from the same flaw as the previous version, in that it struggles to reproduce a convincing blue or green light. The blue appears as purple and green is yellowish. If you want strong colour variations, i’d recommend the lifx colour 1000 bulbs.
The light switch’s days are numbered. This has been added to my small army of things i can now control from my ipad. I have an amazon echo too, so its great to be able to call out ‘lights on full’, or ‘lights off’ or even ‘lights on 30’ (meaning 30% of full). Add to that selecting any colour your brain can come up with. Looking forward to when i can say ‘washing.
