Only nags are;1)manual only for taking video not for editing when transfered on the pc,this is on the disc and has to be read on pc screen, rather have a manual. 2)record button and zoom buttons seem awkward you can zoom just by holding the thing.
I found this camcorder compact, takes really good pictures and easy to use. Just the thing to have with you any time.
I am just back from a holiday and used the camcorder for both still and moving pictures. I have only given it a 4 stars so far because i haven’t downloaded them yet so i don’t know what they will be like once they are off the camera, they look fine when i view them. However the camera is great to use and easy to carry. The one downside i found was when i tried to take pictures in a club one evening. It was quite dark and i got nothing but dark even with the camera light on. Whether i had done something wrong or not i’m not sure but there is no flash on the camera to highlight people in dark places. Remember to order your card, i thought it was an option but there is no hard drive on this cam corder so you need it to take any pictures.
Small, light and good for most people’s use. I have been very happy with this camcorder. I wanted something to replace my old sony dvd camcorder, which shots good clear footage, but the dvds only hold about 30mins and unless you buy dvd-rw, can only be used once. Plus because it has a laser writing onto the dvd, you have to be careful with jolts and it is not pocketable – this camcorder isi would recommend this camcorder to anyone who does not want to get a hd camcorder and wants something small and light that will capture memories. The battery life is good about 1 hour 15 mins and i’d suggest getting more than one sd hc card, going no smaller than 8gb (this will fit about 1 hour of footage at high quality mode).
Great quality and specification for something so small and light. This camcorder (which also takes still pictures in jpeg format) is excellent for anyone that either wants something simple or, as in my case, something sufficiently small and lightweight to fit into a pocket when, for example, ‘baggage’ is limited, you don’t want to carry something of great value or you want something unlikely to be affected by jolting etc (since it has virtually no mechanical moving parts). It measures just 10cm long x 5. 5cm high x 4cm wide and, loaded with a card/battery and with the strap attached, weighs around 170g – you really have to see it ‘in the flesh’ to appreciate how small, light and genuinely pocket-sized it is .It is remarkably well-specified for a camcorder so small and ‘cheap’ (i was lucky enough to get mine new for £90). Ensure you search the term ‘panasonic sdr-s15’ as amazon have the camcorder offered in different colours and wildly different prices i already own a modern/compact jvc hard-disc camcorder (jvc and panasonic are one and the same company by the way. . ) which is great due to the storage capacity, but this little beauty is a third of the weight and getting on for half the size, so it is a far more practical proposition for taking around when there is only an off-chance of requiring a camcorder and/or when storage space is limited. The casing is plastic (in fact i think it is all-plastic, aside from the lens no doubt ) but it is still a robust unit which has an appearance of being well-made. Despite the low-price and basic appearance the specification manages to include such things as :tripod threadbuilt-in lens coverilluminating lightstereo micsdual record buttons (one rear, one right-side near the front)10x optical zoom (i am not a big fan of digital zoom)image-stabilisationflip viewfinderusb and a/v outintegral battery/sd/sdhc storage (via underside lockable flap) so, you can hopefully see it is not short of useful features despite being incredibly easy and straightforward to use. I particularly like the big wheel used to turn the camcorder on and select the shooting mode; aside from the zoom/record buttons it really is all you will usually need to ‘fiddle’ with .
