Very difficult to set up and there is a lot to learn about itrecording film is excellent but have yet to get shots on my computer.
Panasonic hdc-sd9eb-s hd camcorderthis is the 5th panasonic camcorder i have bought over 17 years. All are working as well as they did when new. This camcorder has easily the best pictures, and the stabiliser does a superb job without degrading the picture quality. I have also bought the optional disk burner and this works superbly. Things are not so good when it comes to sound. All my previous camcorders have external microphone sockets and the sound obtainable is better than the built-in microphones on this (or any other small) camera can achieve. As it stands, the camcorder is an excellent tourist product. With better sound facilities it would be good enough for serious work.
I’ve had this camcorder about 2 months now & found it to be a really good buy, i’m no professional so the ease of use & easy handling played a large part in my decicion to buy this model. I would say the picture quality is fantastic although i have not tried on a hd tv as yet, i’ve not really mastered the night mode setting and found the footage to be a bit blurry, shaky, but that may just be me. I was not sure if the 8gig card would be sufficient but them doubts have been eliviated as i transfer onto my pc at regular intervals, i will say the panasonic software is very basic and just about good enough for transfering onto pc,the playback feature only works from the when the camera is connected , the edit facility is dire, especially when like me i keep forgetting to turn the camera off & record my feet wandering around. You really do need third party software to get the most out of the footage. I found the battery life to be very good , the menu system is nice and easy to navigate but i’ve found the little joystick button to be a bit fiddely to use. Sound recording is excellent with very litte residual interferance. Overall i’m really pleased with this camera & would recomend it to anyone who’s not interested in a really complicated professional model.
Great camera – stupid design flaws. Been using this for a couple of months now and am impressed with its picturesits so good it seems a little cynical to have not included a mic socket – probably not to harm sales of their pro cameras. Obviously – you should be aware that you will need mega free memory for hd footage converted from avchd files – having a gig per minute is about right. But external hard drives are cheap and raw avchd is small enough to burn to discbut there are design features that really annoy:* the controls are fiddly and the menus not very intuitive. * the directional nipple seems obtusely designed to be uncomfortable and is sited right next to the bump stop for the screen which makes it confusing to work the controls without looking directly at them. Minor irritations i will admit. But the big stupid comes with getting the movies off the camera:*you can’t take movies off the camera on battery powerthis means plugging in the mains lead. But this is obscurely hidden so you have to actually unplug the battery to stick in the oversized power cableok, you think, at least i can recharge the battery while i am removing my clips – but no. Plug in the lead to the transformer/charger and the battery won’t charge. When are you ever away from a power point. Well – if you are using a laptop on the move and want to check your footage for example. So you have to buy a usb-sd reader that will cope with big file sizes. So – not reasons to choose another camera (good luck at this price), but – especially if you are used to mac levels of design, you may find the experience a little flawed by stupid little things.
Excellent product – so small yet so able. I was attracted to panasonic by the small size and lovely asthetics of their models and nearly purchased an sd7 at £180. However after much research it had to be the sd9 for its far superior picture quality, long battery life and advanced features. I ordered on amazon prime with a free 8gb sd card for a bargain price of £424 – i had seen it in currys that day for £549. It was delivered the next day and after charging the battery for 2 hours i was up and running, running to my mac that is as i was really concerned that it wouldn’t work based on all the reviews. I plugged it in to the usb and nothing happened then a message came up that i needed to connect the ac adapter to the camera and there it was on my mac. I opened imovies and imported my first test footage no problem at all. For info my mac book was bought last october when leopard was released. I have had the camera 2 days now and it is very impressive i have also put the card in my ps3 and picture quality is top notch – i do not have a hd tv as my crt is excellent and the pictures are superb. The size and ease of use is fantastic and you will not regret this purchase.
Panasonic HDC-SD9EB-S HD Camcorder : This camcorder has replaced my sony handycam, and it was well worth the money. Compact, easy to use, good clear pictures and ,unlike my sony, the battery lasted for the whole time i was filming. It’s so neat that it fits in the palm of your hand, which is great for my children aswell.
