I can say that the daylight video quality is very good. I was particularly impressed with the supplied software. Although i haven’t yet used this at night, i can say that the daylight video quality is very good. I was particularly impressed with the supplied software for windows/mac which, once it is set up on your computer, shows everything you could wish for from a device like this. The gps mapping, max and average speed, and direction of travel is superb. There are two manuals and a quick start guide supplied with the camera, and all three are in proper english (other languages also). I simply can’t fault this camera in any way at all. Well worth the extra money compared to many cheaper and far inferior cameras. Having said that, i should explain that i have tried several models of car cameras from a variety of manufacturers, and these included one or two in a similar price bracket. This is the best of the bunch and well deserving of which?.
Nextbase 402g – a good dash cam. Bought this dash cam recently after copious research. The 402g has received generally good reviews here and elsewhere and represents, for me, a good compromise price-wise. Not cheap but not really expensive. It seems well made, if a tad larger than i would have liked but that is being picky. The sucker mount seems to work very well and makes solid connection with the glass. Removing the 402g from the windscreen holder is a bit fiddly and i would have preferred the simple, magnetic mount arrangements of one or two other nextbase models but, again, it’s no big deal. My main issue, which isn’t the camera’s fault but worth bearing in mind, is that i have a large area behind the rear view mirror which houses various sensors so it proved impossible to site the dash cam in the recommended position (behind the rear view mirror). As a consequence i have had to compromise and i sited it on the passenger side of the sensor housing. The camera view is fine in this position although it shows a very small amount of the sensor housing in the top right of the dash cam screen. I decided to hard wire mine so bought the separate nextbase hard wiring kit for the 402g. It was pretty easy to do (i also bought a set of car trim removal tools very cheaply on amazon – there are plenty to choose from) and i am very pleased with the result. So far, the camera has worked well, the images in daylight are first class (i haven’t used it at night as yet) and i am pretty pleased with it. Recommended (subject to minor issues mentioned above).

The video quality is excellent. The only issue i had was that as soon as it has power it turns on and starts recording, and when it doesn’t have power it turns off. Which isn’t a problem if your cigarette lighter only has power when your keys are in the ignition and its turned on. However, a lot of cars, like mine will still give power through the cigarette lighter even if the car is not on and keys aren’t in the ignition. The instructions specify you must not leave it plugged non-stop like this. It would record non-top all night otherwise. The best solution i found, so that i didn’t have to continually push it in and pull it out from the cigarette lighter, was to buy a device (revive 4p 2-socket cigarette lighter power adapter) which has a switch on it to turn it on and off. It comes with an 8gb memory card which will record an hour of hd then loop over the oldest recordings. I bought a recommended 32gb in addition, unfortunately this didn’t work as it was faulty/or a fake. Watch out guys there are fake memory cards out there.
It really does deserve a 5-star rating. . Does everything that is claimed for it. Only two small gripes – i know that to work correctly in the event of an impact, the unit must be securely attached to the car so that the accelerometer receives the full impact shock but i find that to remove the ‘not-so-quick-to-release’ camera from the bracket without pressing the on/off power button is difficult. This is only a requirement if you wish to remove the camera unit when leaving the car , however, so it may not be a problem for all people. Secondly, when reviewing the stored video on a pc, the display is very informative but includes information that does not seem to be covered in the user guide. For example, acceleration and deceleration plus left and right turn forces appear as arrows on the two vehicle icons but no actual values. There are real-time graphs showing x, y and z values, both positive and negative, but no explanatory details are in the user guide. Of course, as you do not see these on the camera screen because they would be too distracting and thus a safety hazard, my gripe only applies to the pc-based review. Almost finally, as another reviewer has written, the presence of the camera makes one more aware of the need to watch your speed. Finally, the user guide receives 10 out of 10 for good, clear and grammatical text – something that i had given up hope of ever seeing again, even on uk-produced items.
Camera is great but the sd card is rubbish. Camera is great but the micro sd card is rubbish and stopped working as soon as it was nearly full. A faulty sd card disables the camera — it still switches on and shows a picture on the lcd screen but there is no other information shown, nothing is being recorded and none of the buttons will work until you removed the faulty card and replaced it. I replaced the supplied card with a sandisk ultra 32gb and it has worked perfectly ever since.
NextBase iN-CAR CAM 402G Professional Car DVR Video Recorder with FREE 32GB Micro SD Card : Nextbase 402g pro (excellent). This is the best dash cam for the price you will pay, others just dont even come close, the suction mount holder is very well built and very sturdy, absolute quality, it holds the cam very still and secure, the cam its self is just excellent, it records everything in 1080p for crystal clear footage, number plates are easily read from at least 2 car lengths away and the night time footage is really good too, the cam sees what you see, you can set the cam to display your number plate, location etc, it has other settings too, like speed and direction hub, screen saver, auto power off and plenty of others, i would recommend the following setting for continual recording though, only because i seem to have had an issue with the cam freezing when settings were set for 5min loop recording and motion detection turned on, this caused the cam to freeze, only a clean reset got it working again, i spoke to nextbase and 3wisemonkys and they both assured me that with the following settings the cam works flawlessly and i can concur, they are right, but it is a shame that the 5min loop setting and motion detect cant be used, so for this i have taken a star away, but if im honest the following settings make the fuction of the camera better anyway so no harm done really, the fact that those settings are available but cant be used because of freezing is the reason i tool a star away, recommended settings are as follows. . 1: set loop recordings to 3 mins2: turn off motion detect3: use a sandisk 32gb micro sd cardthe software that comes with the cam is simple but does what you need it to do, i also ordered a nextbase pouch to put the cam in when im not using it, like over night for example, the only thing im really disappointed with is the lack of theft protection, a tracker would be a great addition to this camera so it could be accurately tracked in the case of any theft, also a cloud based storage system for footage to be automatically uploaded would be and excellent feature that you could access even if the cam was stolen, i would pay a lot more if these features were available, but unfortunatly this cam just doesnt have these features yet, maybe in future models?, even though it is missing some potentially great features, i would still highly recommend this camera, and at this price its simply a bargain.
