Hopefully i just got a bad one, will update on the replacement in a. Had this now a couple of weeks and have had some problems. Not all journeys where recorded, and the screen froze 3 times. The wifi takes at least 30 mins to download a clip so not very helpful. The quality of the recording is ok but the sound on mine was muffled. Having said all that i have ordered a replacement but not the wifi version. Hopefully i just got a bad one, will update on the replacement in a few weeks.
Excellent does what i expected easy set up no problems.
Best price/performance at the time. Important to remember to buy a memory card with this. Before installing the camera, format the card (fat32), then go the the mio website to download the latest software update. This will install itself the first time the device is switched on (takes a little time). Physical installation is easy, the only problem was caused by my car manufacturer’s genius idea of putting dimples on the windscreen behind the rear-view mirror as a sun diffuser, thus stopping the windscreen mount from being air-tight. The actual mount uses a lever operated suction cup. I had to move the camera a little towards the passenger side to get a sensible view. No problem as the adjustment ball-mount had plenty of play. Operation is easy and the few controls on the device are easy and obvious to use. Picture quality seems quite good, the crunch will come (pun) the first time i need the evidential video – hopefully never, but it’s a nice device to own. Here are the specifications for the Mio Technology Mio MiVue 518 Full 1080P HD 2:
- Enter your model number
to make sure this fits.
- The MiVue 518 has a F2.0 lens, so it let’s more light in.
- 2.4” (6.1cm) display screen with 1080 pixel full HD recording capability
- Integrated GPS – Track your position wherever you go.
- 3-Axis G-Sensor records direction and force, including impact, turns and acceleration
I wanted one of these having read a very good review in the telegraph, and saw this one at a good price . It certainly meets my expectations – the quality of video is excellent, in varying light levels, and road signs and number plates can be clearly read when playback is paused to test this, and i find the location (in latitude and longitude) and speed (in km/hr) of interest. I have not (yet) tested the device in an emergency situation .I am using it with a 32gb memory card, which provides plenty of room for storage. I do still have reservations about the installation – i am using blutack to fix the power wire around the windscreen, which seems to work well, and my car (’04 ford focus) has two power outlets within easy reach – however, i have my ‘hands free’ permanently in one of them, which calls for even more wires . I do wish, though, that the power supply had a usb end rather than the big charger that it does (which can get in the way) – i think it must be possible to replace the wire with a usb to mini usb lead, but you still need the ‘charger’ to provide the right amperage for the device. I deliberately chose this mio model, rather than the deluxe version because i could see no point in having a speed camera facility (the only obvious difference) since i use a satnav as well. The mio is a bit more expensive than many such devices – but a lot cheaper than many others.
Great purchase could no have beenmore ppleased with it.
Reviews from purchasers :
- This is one of the better camaras
- Very pleased with this item.
- Smart little camera!
Fantastic value, works perfectly. . Have now bought three of these, the images and video are very good quality even at night. In these days of ‘crash for cash’ i don’t believe anyone should be without this brilliant piece of kit but don’t be fooled into buying cheaper dashcams which don’t have gps incorporated as this one proves where you were and how fast you were travelling. This is great value for money, great protection against scammers and could save your insurance deductible and protect your no claims bonus. ### update ###just purchased another for my son who was caught out by (let’s just say) foreigners in a crash for cash in his van. It cost him a £600 deductible. A clear road at less than 30mph in single line road works, driver in front stopped dead for absolutely no reason so there was nowhere to swerve without danger, there were of course no witnesses and the scammer claimed for all sorts of spurious injuries etc. If he had had one of these at the time the scam would have been clear and he would have saved his ncb and his £600.
Good piece of kit, very pleased.
