A vast improvement over my old laptop.
Great laptop in this price bracket. Keeping my review primarily to the laptop itself rather than the windows 10 operating system. The ideapad 305 appears well built and as reasonably sturdy as could be expected at its circa £330 price bracket. With the intel i3 core processor, 1tb of storage and 8gb of ram memory it is both powerful and fast enough for all my needs (watching videos and tv, listening to music, editing still pics and using ms office apps). The screen gives a nice sharp and bright image, though it does dim significantly when not being used on mains power. This though is easily rectified by adjusting the brightness via windows. As claimed by lenovo i do find the screen much better than average in its anti-glare properties. Even outside on a cloudy day it was very easy to view. The keyboard has a nice feel to it, is responsive and appears perfectly capable of taking a great deal of bashing over its lifetime. The touch pad works well too, though as with most laptops these days i’d prefer the two buttons to be a little broader.
You get what you pay for, or do you?. So i bought this laptop as a cheap and cheerful device so that i didn’t have to squint at my phone or boot up my desktop to browse the web. An i3 and 8gb of ram packs more than enough punch for this, and gives a little future proofing too. You could easily spend more for an i5 and never feel the increase, get a celeron or pentium and what your buying a low end laptop ( why they still make these models is beyond me). So this laptop hardware wise had everything i needed. My main gripe with the laptop is build quality, the keyboard might need clicking back in but that’s easy enough, and i also had low wifi strength due to a bust antenna connector. A quick google and i realised i could just use the aux antenna instead. Now i’ve got full strength everywhere. I wil admit at this point that i void the warranty day 1 by replacing the hard drive with a £30 ssd, something i highly recommend, the performance increase is absurd, it boots up and is unable within about 7 seconds. You wouldn’t get that from a laptop twice the price without an ssd. Here are the specifications for the Lenovo IdeaPad 305 15:

Performance very good, but the touchpad is somtimes jumpy – i have great difficulty placing the cursor where i want it.
Good value budget lenovo ideapad 305 laptop. We paid £289 for this ideapad so bear this in mind on following review:so far after approx 3 weeks of use, the laptop is proving to be a fanstastic little machine for web browsing and basic office applications and watching videos. It’s pretty fast for a low end machine. Display does not have a wide angle for viewing, you need to be almost face on to the screen. Keyboard and case are not that robust, but for the price and use it’s really good value. We just make sure we put it away carefully in a case and take good care of it. I’ve removed a few of the installed programmes and put some new ones on, including installing ms office 2013 and avg free, and it’s all gone well. Windows 10 which came installed on the laptop seems to be working as expected and is great once you get used to it from previously using windows 7. We are really please with this as an extra computer for our family.
