Kensington Digital FM Transmitter : Finally, a transmitter that works!

FM Transmitters

Product allows wireless fm transmittion from i-pod to fm radio channel. Great product, requires cigarette lighter connection which charges the ipod as you listen. Only drawback when on long journeys the radio staion frequencies vary but the 3 preset buttons on the transmitter allow you to easily change channel should the need arise.

This transmitter works very well indeed. I have experienced no problems at all in using this item. The volume is more than loud enough, infact there is no volume difference between the transmitter and the normal radio stations. I like the fact that there are three programable channel settings, which means that if you move through an area of interefence, you can easily change to another channel, with very little messing about. Having said that, i have expeirienced virtually no interference. I would highly recommend this transmitter.

Superior to the rds model in every way. . Read my review of the kensington’s rds model to see why you should buy this. In fact i missed out one other horrible feature of the rds model inthat review – whenever you connect your ipod to the rds transmitter, it immediately starts playing the very first song on your ipod. Anyway, everything that’s wrong with the design of the rds transmitter is curiously right with this one. The car lighter plug is a good tight fit and small enough so as not to be obtrusive, the buttons and display are easy to use the ipod connection is like a standard apple connector, so you can use this in conjunction with the superb nyko universal car mount (which i definitely recommend). The only thing that’s missing is rds support, but to be honest. Why do you need that when you have the display on your ipod already?anyway, this is a nice, solid, well-made product and the best solution for broadcasting your ipod to your car stereo. Oh, and it doesn’t start playing the first song in your ipod library everytime you connect it either. Here are the specifications for the Kensington Digital FM Transmitter:

I bought this item expecting a lot & initially i was very pleased, but & there is a but, when i started driving the signal didn’t so much as come & go but more if your aerial picks up any sort of station signal it overides the signal to the ipod & the sound quality is awful, it basically takes the great sound quality of your ipod & reverts it to an old cassette tape quality complete with back ground hiss. There is a catch though, i then tried this in our other car which is newer but more importantly the radio reception is rubbish & when you use it in this where there’s no chance of picking up half signals as such it works fantastically it’s clear & crisp & doe’s what it says on the tin. Therefore i can only surmise that from my experience if you’ve got a good reception from your antenna on your car & you live in an area that has alot of different station signals, partial or whole, then i don’t think this is for you. However if your reception is not that good & you lose the signals of radio station’s quite quickly, then go for it this will work superbly.

I was a little unsure about ordering this product after reading the poor report from ‘soilman’ but weighed up all the good reports against his poor one and thought ‘what the heck, i’ll give it a go’. So glad i did – it’s a super wee gadget. The toughest thing about getting it to work was trying to remember how to tune my car stereo.Once i had that figured i was flying – and thats coming from the most untechnically minded female you could come across.

Reviews from purchasers :

  • Superior to the RDS model in every way.
  • Pleased that I read the reviews before making my choice
  • Smashing, Super, Great.

Looking for good sound quality?. Sound quality is vital for me just because i love to listen to music and i spent a very long time reading reviews for many brands before spotting the reviews for this device. Other reviews claimed the sound quality was good and i can confirm the quality is excellent. No hiss (other than when tuned into a signal where there is a strong radio station signal), no background noises whatsoever even when played loud. It defaults to the frequency 88. 1 and this is fine where i live so no need to change it. I’ve used it while travelling and i simply pushed up on the search button, it went to the next free frequency 88.

Pleased that i read the reviews before making my choice. I was initially tempted by the kensington rds fm transmitter – little price difference and same high feedback, however the comment about the rds on an audi was extremely valuable. On an audi the rds display is at the top of the central console, meaning that using the rds would cause a constant stream of red letters in front of the drivers eyes – very distracting. I received this unit a few weeks ago and have driven all around se england using only the present 107. 9 fm – very rarely have i had the slightest crackle of interference. I often use it to listen to spoken podcasts, which i suspect would be more inclined to show up interference – so far nothing. An excellent bit of kit that delivers what it promises – plus the cord is long enough that you can lock you ipod away in the glove compartment and leave this plugged in when you are not in the car. Buy one – you won’t regret it.

Almost perfect, one or two things to improve though. The sheer weight of positive reviews is what led me to buy this transmitter and i’m more or less satisfied with it. There are a couple of things about it that bug me though, one that has been mentioned a lot and one that i haven’t spotted anyone mention yet. 1) the quality is never going to be perfect. I can get it really, really close but there’s always a hiss in the background. This is not noticable on louder tracks but on the quieter ones you’re going to hear it. This leads on to my other problem. 2) as it is oly connected to your ipod by the docing port on the bottom and not via the headphone jack on the top, you cannot adjust the volume of the track using the ipod dial. This is only a problem if you have a quieter track. If you boost the car stereo volume you’re boosting the background hiss as well.

Kensington digital fm transmitter. Bought one of these from amazon a few weeks ago and it’s very simple to set up and use. Just connect the ipod, plug the unit into the cigarette lighter, set your frequency, press play on the ipod and hey presto, music is played via the same frequency set on your car stereo. Sound is crystal clear and the ipod gets recharged too while you’re using it. Saves having a car full of cds to flick through and play.

I only tried this product for the first time yesterday and i already love it. I “ummed” and “arred” about purchasing an fm transmitter for some time as many of the reviews i read (on here and elsewhere) were very mixed. However the strength of feeling about this one was such that i bit the bullet and got one. Yes, it took a while to find a free frequency and yes, there is some background hiss (you are converting digital sound to an fm signal so what do you expect?)but compared to my old cassette adaptor it is superb. The power connector is a little stiff but this is a very minor issue and with care when removing/inserting i don’t see this as a problem. I will have no hesitation in recommending this to anyone.

August CR225 – FM Transmitter, It paired easily with my android phone

Tidy, straight-forward and good quality broadcast solution. This has turned out to be an excellent buy. Easy to set up and a pretty elegant design. The usb pass-through was perfect for charging my iphone 5 and it still managed to increase charge on a long journey with bluetooth and satnav …
