JBL Control One Rugged 2-Way 100mm : Great sound and looks;

Fantastic speakers for the money. Obviously due to the there size they require a subwoofer for lower frequencies (i’d say. They are built well and include wall mounts (however many have said these are not very good). For creating a home cinema setup these are perfect.

Perfect for your outdoor audio pleasures. Purchased these speakers for our back garden. These provide brilliant bass response at high volumes while maintaining clarity without distortion. We have had these speakers outside in all sorts of weather for around 3 years now and haven’t come across a single problem. Highly recommended for your outdoor audio pleasures.

Good compact speaker, greatly improved by some simple mods and careful mounting. I have had two pairs of these for a couple of years, used with smsl tripath amplifiers. One pair is my desk used with internet-computer radio and one in my bedroom with a creek t40 fm tuner. Good clarity and very capable as nearfield monitors. There is a bit of cabinet resonance easily overcome by lining the cabinets with antiresonant material such as silentcoat, takes 10 minutes and a 3mm allen key. Mounting i find best on soft rubber feet which further controls minor bass boom. I would expect wall mounting also to work well to avoid furniture resonance. My musical diet is mostly jazz classical and bbc r4 and am not at all disappointed. I was sufficiently impressed to purchase the second pair. Here are the specifications for the JBL Control One Rugged 2-Way 100mm:

  • Compact design and unobtrusive footprint
  • Outstanding JBL performance
  • Easy setup and use
  • Wall-mounting system included
  • Finish: Black and silver

Decency expected, excellence delivered. . I have just installed the speakers on my outdoor terrace. I’m happy to be able to enjoy jazz with cheese and wine. :)sound is at high volume very clear and works perfectly with my 15 years old sony 100w amplifier. I think the price/quality ratio of these fellows is excellent. Soft grey rubbered edges gives them fancy outdoor appereance. My first and probably not the last jbl toy.

Great speakers, good clear sound and easy to bracket to the wall.

Reviews from purchasers :

  • Perfect for your outdoor audio pleasures
  • Great sound from such a small pair of speakers
  • Good quality, clear sound

Great sound from such a small pair of speakers. Great sound from such a small pair of speakers. Quiet heavy and substantial and obviously well made.

I just received these a few days ago and i have to say i am blown away. I needed to downgrade to small bookshelf speakers and did a fair amount of research before opting for the jbl control 1’s – and i have not been disappointedthe clarity of sound is (in my opinion) unbelievable – much better than any speaker i have even owned previously. Although its worth noting that i am not a hifi enthusiast, just someone who likes musicas another reviewer has already said the bass these little boxes produce belies their small form factor. For the price there is nothing out there that comes anywhere close to the jbl’s at the moment. The fact that this range has been going since the 80’s and has no sign of slowing down is testament to their quality. Look up in any pub you’re in, and you’ll probably see these – they are quality. The only negative, and this is me being pedantic is the plastic casing – i wish they were a little more aesthetically pleasing. That being said you don’t buy speakers to look at, and these aren’t bad looking by any stretch of the imagination. A well deserved 5 stars for this product.

Does the job for meedit: needs to be more descriptive and helpful, i feel. I have a very decent sound system to start with for my music which comprises of kef ls50s as main lr channels and a rel t5 as sub. For the amplification i use marantz nr1602 (the slimline series) and it does pack a punch with it’s discrete output stage. Very revelaing and muscial amplification i would say. And it’s got the avr capabilities which is a bonusanyway, i needed to expand my system into a 7. 1 channel configuration and hence began my search for the decent sized satellites to do the duties. I stumbled upon these and read some reviews about them. As i wouldn’t be using them for any music material i thought of giving these a go based on the reviews and jbls commercial reputation amongst the auditoriums.

Having over the last year or so fallen for the charms of tripath based amplifiers i needed a decent set of high efficiency compact speakers. Tripath amps are renowned for their transparency and detailed sound the downside being limited output power. The jbl’s are a perfect match for them having 89db watt/metre sensitivity an 8ohm load and a fantastic midrange that conveys every bit of emotion in vocals. Bass from the 4inch driver is tight and tunefull and given the small cabinet surprisingly deep. Treble is a touch bright but never harsh and the drivers integrate well giving a lively footapping performance. The only negative is the use of springclip terminals but they grip well and i was able to use 2. Used in my “proper” system with a source and amp costing ten times the price they don’t disgrace themselves retaining a musical and enjoyable sound. One note of caution though, they are true monitors in the sense that you will hear every little facet in a recording.

Great sound and looks; rather heavy so made sure that i followed the wall-mount fitting instructions closely. (i hooked on the security clasp hook/chain before mounting the unit completely, which meant an easier fix in a tight spot).

We have two pairs of these, one in our garage and another in the study. Great for music and movie use. Easy to pair with an amp and very sensitive. Don’t expect earth-shaking bass or a reference audio experience, but for something durable for every day or background use they do the job. Look around in public installations, pubs, clubs and concert halls and you’ll see how good they are.
