HP Pavilion dv7-7050ea 17 : The power matches the great aesthetics

Good hp laptop with good overall performance, but extremely poor wi-fi reception. This item was purchased recently- as ‘used but in very good condition’ – from amazon. And to be fair, it is in very good condition, both the exterior, and moer importantly, the internal components(hard drive etc). The machine is an excellent machine, for the power-hungry, or technical(like my self) folks who develop what’s inside these things for a living. It’s also good for on-the-go movie-watching, music and other entertainment. Overall, i wuold rate this laptop as ok – good value-for-money, given the price i paid for it. The only (and very important) dissappointing factor in this laptop is it’s horrendous wi-fi reception. The wi-fi circuitory is either faulty(partically) or simply low-qualitywhen i place my old laptop(an acer 7720g) and this one(hp) on the same table(or various other locations) – my old laptop picks up all my neighbours’ wi-fi connections, and am able to use them with 4-5 bars of signal power. The hp laptop won’t even pick up most of my neighbour’s wi-fi and when it does, only with one bar. :(it does not even pick up my own home’s router with more than 3 bars (out of 5) signal-strength at a time.

Good overall but some issues. Have had this for just over two months now and overall pretty happy, it is good value for the spec. A few extra points for prospective buyers though:1) power management default options disconnect you from wireless internet when you unplug from the mains. It’s not obvious and appears to be just taking ages to connect. You can change the power settings so wireless is always on but it does reduce the battery life. 2) the second hard drive capability is not as simple to use as another reviewer suggested. There is, in the uk, no supplied long hdd connector cable for the second bay. Another buyer called hp and got one supplied; i called and got short shrift. You can apparently buy one from newmodeus in the us but it adds around ¬£25 to the cost. This is imo a very small saving for hp (it wouldn’t cost them anywhere near that to fit it) and a big minus for the buyer.

Large screen and fingerprint recognition – coupled with first class graphics make this a mustthe lit up notepad is another bonus, with light responsive keys. Here are the specifications for the HP Pavilion dv7-7050ea 17:

  • Enter your model number
    to make sure this fits.
  • Intel Core i3-2350M 2.3GHz Processor
  • Listen to music the way artists intended with the revolutionary Beats Audio, Subwoofer and 4 speakers
  • The HP TrueVision HD Webcam makes you look good in any light. Whether you are on an HD video call or filming an HD blog post, you will look your best.
  • If you accidentally drop your PC, HP ProtectSmart’s accelerometer puts the brakes on your hard drive to protect your photos, music and memories
  • HP CoolSense: by rethinking the materials, the placement of components and vents, HP has products that feel noticeably cooler
  • HP SimplePass remembers your passwords for you. With an easy-to-use interface, HP SimplePass stores all your passwords in one place – and as many as you want

Was a little apprehensive when buying this, especially as it was refurbished, but can say i am really happy i did. The details said there was a minor cosmetic imperfection, but 2 months later i still haven’t found it, was in very good condition. As for the laptop itself, i chose it due to the price, which was cheaper than anywhere else i looked for a laptop with this spec, and due to having a hp laptop before. I am definitely not disappointed with it, it’s really good value for money. I haven’t really experienced any of the overheating or freezing issues that other buyers have, the only thing i have experienced is that it wouldn’t turn off at one point so had to hold the power in to force shut down, but after that i have never had any other problems. I do find it a little on the heavy side, but i personally don’t find it a problem as it is a great laptop and the aluminium casing is really beautiful and also gives it a more sturdy feel. I always have a lot of programs open and at once (ie photoshop, illustrator, word office, google chrome, windows media player) which any other computer/laptop i’ve worked on can’t handle, but this laptop hasn’t had any problems with this, it doesn’t even pause for a few seconds. The sound and colour quality is great, it goes really quite loud for laptop and the colours are bright and vivid. I also find the fingerprint scanner really useful, i didn’t even know it had one before i purchased it so was really impressed when i got iti’ve also not had any problems with the wifi connections like other reviews have mentioned.

Really impressed with the hp pavilion dv7 laptop as a warehouse deal, despite some concerns over the robustness of the build quality, could not seem to keep the battery in its housing and would not lock in for some reason (battery release catch seems flimsy). The trim area around the screen is a bit weak especially where you open the screen, would like to see a lip to open the screen without getting your finger prints around the camera lens. The lap top however is very good and has performed admirable whilst i am freelance training using several applications. Big bonus that it has the same charger as other laptops in the house, why do laptop manufactures not use a universal charger.

  • Good HP laptop with good overall performance, but eXtremely POOR WI-FI reception

This is a great allround home laptop. The disk is huge and although it’s only 5400 rpm i didn’t really notice much of a lag under normal usage. The brushed metal looks very nice and, although some people reported that the keyboard isn’t great, i found it actually very nice to use. Bottom line, i have this laptop for almost a month now and i haven’t found any negative points on it. My kids also like it for gaming and the sound quality is excellent. I haven’t found a comparable laptop for a similar price. Would recommend to everyone.

I’ve had the laptop for about a month or so and really love it. Great pictures/sound when streaming films or music. Very rare to have any multi-tasking problems and happily plays movies, browses and runs office programs at the same time. Does everything i want of it and more.

Delivers on internal spec, performance and durability. . After handling many laptops in a store, i found the hps had the best build quality; a robust chassis and keyboards that did not spring back and forth when typing. Having handled it quite roughly for the past 9 months it is still going strong. It is fast and i can open multiple tabs; run a caqdas programme with ease and transcribe from audio at the same time. Even the toshibas are flimsy nowadays and i think hp are one of the few brands that match their high calibre internal specs with a superior build quality. A laptop is a mobile machine and i wish other oems acer, asus, lenovo would invest in the durability of their machines. We’ve had laptops for over 2 decades now, they should all be like panasonic toughbooks by now, yet somehow they are getting flimsier than ever.

Audible fan noise on an almost constant basis. Mouse pad is not user friendly. Keyboard is good, screen is clear, sound is good.

Had it 3 years finally upgraded to a custom gaming pc but this laptop was awesome and it handled most current games.

Great on the inside, crappy on the out. . There is a basic design fault with this laptop. The top sits inside the the case, leaving a gap around the edge. Anyone with a smidgen of hair on their arms will get hem trapped at some point. On top of that there are two thin strips of the plastic case that sit over a pair of speakers, one on each side, at the front of the machine. They just happen to align with the area my wrists sit on the top of the chassis. Initially super glue worked for a while. I have now resorted to araldite and have put that in the gap in the hope that it will prevent my wrists from catching the thin plastic edge. I only have a short time on the guarantee now, so if this doesn’t work then i may well request a replacement.

A bit nervous about moving away from my desktop but took the plunge and so far the speed and reliability of the machine are first class. I went for the bigger screen as i thought a smaller screen might be a pain but the clarity is so good that a smaller screen would probably do as well as the laptop is a bit on the large side to carry around and it is definitely on the heavy side. A bag with a shoulder strap is really a must.

I am delighted with my new laptop no real problems setting up. I have not experienced any of the overheating problems experienced by other reviewers.
