This is the third sat nav i’ve experienced. The 1st was a nuvi 205, which was fantastic, and i would almost certainly nonetheless be utilizing if it had not died mysteriously. Comply with the directions then all of a sudden ‘recalculating’. Calculated to push you mad. So, acquiring had sufficient of that, it was back again to the garmin. This design has updates on my past. It now announces street names and highway names. The speed at which it calculates new routes has also improved. Just to take a look at it i took a few distinctive instructions from all those supplied to me, and in just seconds, it has calculated the new route. Uncomplicated to set up, effortless to use.

A very good worth entry stage device. We acquired this satnav for my girlfriend’s father as his introduction to the technologies. We own a garmin satnav every and considered it least complicated if we acquired garmin so we could react to any queries. Despite all the hoopla we assume there is certainly nevertheless a lot of mileage in discrete satnavs – we equally have substantial end android telephones but find using them as in automobile satnavs as well fiddly. Also, the selling price of integrated satnavs on new automobiles is preposterous – on my new automobile it would have been shut to £1k and sellers are extremely imprecise about the update arrangementsthis nuvi 40 is, at the time of composing, part of garmin’s most recent ‘essentials series’ – it is built to supply essential satnav features without difficulties, and, at a finances price tag. I have supplied it 5 stars as we have exam driven it and compared it versus the garmin versions we own (a 1690 and 3790 which are considerably greater up the selection) – the nuvi 40 benchmarks quite favourably. In the box you get the satnav, a ability wire that connects to the 12v socket in your motor vehicle, a windscreen suction pad and a bracket to connect the device to the windscreen mount. There is certainly a certainly concise rapid begin guideline and that’s it. 1 omission is the usb direct you want to connect the unit to your pc in purchase to update the unit, but, most properties will have a single of these somewhere – it is a usb to mini usb direct as employed in cameras and a lot of other devices. I advocate updating the program right before you use the nuvi device and you can also download added voices etcetera.

I acquired this satnav for my mum to use and it is very effortless to use. The functions are easy and compared to the tomtom is pretty fast. It picks up sign swift and is well worth the funds. Here are the specifications for the Garmin Nuvi 40 GPS Satnav 4:

Exceptional satnav that exceeded anticipations. I purchased this as it was the cheapest unit with western european maps for a road trip using me all over british isles, belgium and france lately. I didn’t anticipate significantly from this device but have been extremely pleasantly surprised with the functionality and lots of selections that i would think about past mere principles. It proved to be really straightforward and intuitive to use, and very precise, each in phrases of streets and mapping as properly as giving precise facts about pace boundaries and basic safety cameras. The timing on informing about future turns or exits is just right, neither far too early nor too late. It you should not expect any satnav to be 100% precise and this was not possibly, but for the duration of virtually 2000 miles of driving in three nations around the world it proved inaccurate on only a handful of instances, which i imagine is pretty amazing. It can be totally excellent, specially for the united kingdom, that you can kind in the whole postcode and not just aspect of it as i have noticed on other satnavs. You have the possibility of browsing utilizing total write-up code, address, or just the identify of a city and when you set it for a city, it normally takes you straight to the downtown spot which is excellent if you’ve never ever been to a area in advance of and want to go exactly where matters are taking place. If you look for for a restaurant, lodge, tenting site, and so forth. It also reveals get hold of telephone quantities if accessible.

Satnav arrived within a week, and is straightforward to master how to use. Glad that i decided to have just one.

It can’t pronounce english place names. I have had this for approximately 3 weeks. The peculiar and unnatural pronunciation of names such as reading and malmesbury makes it appear amateurish, and it could be confusing in an unfamiliar part of the country, or to someone for whom english is not their first language. Generally, the audio instructions are significantly less clear than they were on my 5-year old tomtom: slightly distorted and a little too fast. If tomtom can get this right, garmin should be able to. However navigation works ok, and entry of address information is straightforward. I have not yet found a way to check the route by browsing it as as text, as i did on the tomtom; following the route on the map and zooming is slow and cumbersome. I chose garmin over another tomtom purely because problems have been reported with tomtoms newer than mine not accepting full post codes.

I wanted a reasonably priced sat nav for a one off journey for work. This did exactly what it said on the box. The pronunciation of road names is a bit hit and miss but the directions are spot on.

Be warned this product does not have a pin or lock. Anyone can use it, which must make it desirable for thieves. They know they will be able to sell it on as a working item. Not what you would expect from a name like garmin. A pin feature would cost next to nothing to include. I asked garmin about this and they just said it is the ‘essential’ range so it doesn’t have a lock. I think any responsible manufacturer that cared about its customers would consider a simple pin/ lock feature ‘essential’ on all satnavs. My advice would be to buy a satnav from someone who does care enough to include a lock.

Bought to replace an older garmin and this is a big improvement. Would recommend if you do not an all singing all dancing satnav.

Having owned a cheap and cheerful gps that failed to function with athermic glass in my audi a8 i purchased a tomtom which also did not work with athermic glass. Many cars now have this glass which consists of two layers sandwiching a thin layer of metal to reduce heat entering the car. It also reduces the gps signal. In my case this meant driving in the rain and darkness on motorways with windows and sunroof open to get my old gps systems to work. My third gps is the garmin nuvi 40 which is just brilliant at picking up the signal in the a8. Plus the old gps would wander around in the urban canyons of london recalculting routes as it went. Plus the signal acquisition when”hot” is almost instant.

Ok with a map and common sense. My wife and i resisted getting a satnav for many years as we’re quite competent with maps and a google print can always be taken along for the detail. However, we’d borrowed a tom-tom on a couple of occasions and been quite impressed. This year we knew we’d be making more journeys into unknown territory so we took the plunge (well. Didn’t want or need all the gizmos so looked round for a cheaper model with decent reviews and the garmin nuvi 40 seemed to fit the bill. So having had it now for 3 months what do we think?. Well, it’s certainly been of good help a number of times, particularly in larger towns and cities which is what we expected and wanted it for. What we hadn’t realised is that it could find us a hotel, historic mansion or even a local shop, so that has been a nice bonus. But in other ways we’ve been severely disappointed as satnavs must be considered a mature product these days. The number of roundabouts it does not know about is legion and the number of junctions where it has incorrect information on the through road is unbelievable. I wouldn’t mind if some of these were recent changes to the road layout but some have obviously been like that for decades. It’s not too bad when it tells you to turn right when you’re on a bend on a main road with a minor road coming from the left, i can cope too when i have to stop at a stop sign and turn on to a main road and it says nothing, but when you need to turn off the main road and it says nothing that’s really frustrating – had that several times to date. Why on earth are their maps so inaccurate?then there are the many out of date or wrong speed limits. Ok, that’s not too bad as long as you keep a look out yourself, but sometimes it’ll show a speed limit of one speed in the red circle and have the speed camera warning with a different value – surely they must be able to programme out such idiocieswhile i’m being grumpy i think it overestimates the speed we can drive.

I’ve previously owned a mio and a tomtom sat nav. I must be a bit clumsy, as none seem to last long with me. The touch screen packed up on my tomtom xl last week, after owning it for just over three years. As i already use a garmin gps, i thought i’d go with a garmin sat nav, as they have been in the business for a long time. Although i usually avoid halfords, they were doing a £20 off deal if you ordered online. As i live next door to them, i reserved it online, waited an hour then walked next door to pick it up for £69. After the tomtom, it is a bit of a culture shock as it isn’t loaded with features, then again i’d never used them on the tt. It does what it says on the box, and i wasn’t really expecting anything else.
