This is my third garmin satnav over a period of 8 years and as one would expect an improvement on the previous model. My only problem is the mount method which tends to let the screen vibrate due to the size of the unit, this did not happen on my previous unit as it was only 4′ screen. Hence i have only given 4 starshowever it is a lot easier to read whilst driving, particularly when set vertically, it shows further ahead and gives a lot more information. Garmin sat navs are a lot easier to set up and more user friendly. My only other disappoinment is that i purchased my unit as soon as it come on the market garmin are now offering a £30. 00 money back since the beginning of may .
So good, i covered my windscreen in newspaper and it still got me home. but it is pretty impressive. First real sat nav i’ve owned and i’ve been very impressed with its functions. Taken it to europe a few times where it worked faultlessly, including the suggested quicker routes when traffic jams predicted.
The best things are not so obvious. I went for this both on the strength of some of the reviews, and the free lifetime maps and traffic. I was being driven mad by my phone satnav (copilot live on a htc one x) not picking up a signal for ages on start up. This device gets a lock almost instantaneously. However, the best feature of this device for me is the voice command system. It’s so simple to use and (unusually) it’s both accurate and effective. A simple vocabulary plus numbered lists make selecting what you want a doddle. I’ve also found i can drive and not use the separate (provided) mic which means one less cable. Routing can be a bit strange at times. On fastest routing it wanted to use a series of local lanes that i know wouldn’t be faster than my normal route (and that my other systems suggest. Here are the specifications for the Garmin nuvi 3590LMT 5″ Sat Nav:
- Enter your model number
to make sure this fits.
- Extra-wide yet slimline, dual-orientation, 5-inch sat nav
- Lifetime map updates and traffic alerts – for the lifetime of the sat nav
- Lane Assist, PhotoReal junction view and Bird’s Eye junction view
- Handsfree operation – Voice activated for spoken navigation instructions and handsfree phone calls via Bluetooth®
- Street-level mapping for Europe
This is very good with free map updates and free travel reports. The bluetooth connection to phone is also good. The only problem i found was that you need to plug in all the ‘gubbins’ to get the traffic reports – there was an opportunity here to allow purchasers of this unit to have access to the online via bluetooth data (which this does not – you have to pay extra to get traffic in this way).
Best sat nav i have ever owned. Having owned a tom tom 720 in 2006 and a snooper sirius proline 2000 since 2009 the garmin 3590 is whithout a doubt the best sat nav ive ever owned. Mapping – very smooth and quick fluid graphics with nice 3d rendered buildings. Touch screen – pinch to zoom. 3d live services – traffic info linked through my smart phone. Voice command – when it works its brilliant and very easy to navigate through menus. Negativeshigh price of the unit – however it is the top end of their product line and comparative with the top end of alternative units. I paid £250 and got the £30 cashback from garmin in their august promo. Price of the live services – i only have the traffic (£20/yr) and speed cameras (£8/yr). I do alot of motorway driving so might try the motorway camera live image feed for £8/yr and see what its like. Speed camera warning – not loud enough just a gentle bong.
Reviews from purchasers :
- Problems and solutions
- Brilliant – once it’s properly set up
- The best things are not so obvious
A bit disappointing purchase :(. The reason for choosing this product was the free map updates. Positive* it is very thin and stylishnegative:* overpriced. * does not come with the mains charger or carry case and i believe at least the charger should have been included in the package. * device does not charge unless you switch it on. * licence agreement comes up on the screen every time you switch it on which i find quite annoying. Accepting the agreement once should be enough, no need to do that every time you use the satnav.
It seems i made the right choice. I have a very early garmin that i got for my bike and liked it a lot but back then you did’nt get map updates. I wanted to get another garmin as i hoped they where still the market leader. After reading reviews on amazon i wanted a 5′ screen as its for my car and i wanted free map and traffic updates (paying this sort of money they should be free). When i tried to register on line it took me two hours may be it was my laptop but what a pain. I have only took it on one trip so far to see how things went and i thaught it was very good. I am still getting to grips with my 3590 and it does more than i will probably need but i am taking it on my holls so i hope it gets me to my hotel. It seems easy to use so far and i am glad i went for another garmin.
