A great little video camera when the battery will charge. Bought the flip ultra hd in november 2009. Positivesit is the easiest video camera i’ve ever used – literally push big red button to stop and start, it’s great for those who aren’t looking for something highly technical (had a panasonic dvd camcorder before and it was far too complicated with different recording formats etc)the picture quality is really good, especially when you plug directly into a hd tvthe flip software is excellent. Very easy to use to edit and creat movies. I found the easiest way to download to a dvd was create the movie in the flip software, export it to the pc, then use windows dvd maker to create the dvd (nb we’re on windows 7). Negativeshad problems with charging the battery from the outset. It comes with a rechargeable battery pack that can only be charged within the camera. If you’re plugging it directly into a powered usb port (as flip advise is best rather than via a hub) it hangs in mid air and is prone to pulling on the port and also at risk of being knocked off if the pc is not hidden out of the way, plus the screen is facing down, so you can’t see any of the messages on it. My solution to this was to use a plug socket usb adaptor to charge it away from the pc on and extension lead so i could turn it over to see the screen. I still regularly got the ‘too hot charging paused’ and ‘check battery pack charging paused’ messages.
Very simple to use, light and fits perfectly in pockets and hand bags. The first one i received was defective and would not charge the battery pack but amazon have been amazing and really fast in exchanging it for another one that works. With my first one i also found that the colour from the black pouch provided ‘runs’ and did create a marble effect on my white flip (obviously it will not affect the black one) so i would recommend anyone to use a different protection pouch. Bought a little mobile sock for under £2 that fits the new camera perfectly and does not affect the colour. The image and sound quality are very crisp and look great on a hd tv. I also found that the battery lasts for a very long time while shooting and turning on/off frequently. All in all would recommend this camera to anyone wishing to film life’s little adventures.
Couldn’t be simpler but slightly spoiled by battery problems and intolerance to movement. The good stuff:the flip ultra hd couldn’t be any simpler. It switches on and is ready to film in about a second – which fact alone makes it an incredibly useful tool for documenting unexpected events. The picture quality is great, the sound is surprisingly good (considering the puny mic that must be onboard) and you can just pile two hours of video onto 8gb. It captures night time scenes like no other camera i’ve seen: blacks are inky black and light sources stand out. Goodbye over-compensated orange night scenes. In short, the flip ultra hd really is as easy to use as a video camera can possibly be. Carry it in your pocket and capture anything, any time, anywhere. Now, the not so good stuff:first, the battery. I plugged in after my first few ‘out-of-the-box’ shoots to recharge only to find.
Overall a good camera, only a couple of things i wish they would change. I use my flip camera for work (teacher) and was very excited initially to be able to use it for my work. I have had the camera for 7/8 months now, and felt i would write a review after having used it enough to be informed fully about it. Overall the camera is great, the quality of picture is good and the sound is excellent. I recently took it to a concert at wembley, and even though i was up ridiculously high the sound was perfect. It does, however, have a couple of down sides to it – like i guess anything would do. The first thing, which i feel it its biggest downfall is the zoom, or lack of it. It is very poor and has trouble focusing when you fully zoom in. If you plan to film anything in detail you do have to be close to it, or be prepared to miss out on anything due to its inability to get in close. Secondly, which again i felt was a minor thing that flip could probably sort out, is the fact you cannot turn the camera to film anything. If you film with the camera held on its side (so the screen is portrait rather than landscape) you cannot rotate your video. It is not possible to do this using the flip software at all. I am a mac user however, and sometimes you can use a different program, but not always to rotate the film. This can be a nightmare (i often ask a student to do it)the camera holds 2 hours worth of filming, and when i plugged it into my mac it loaded the software automatically onto it for me.
I recommend the 8gb ultra hd. Its fun editing bits out and creating mini movies with titles and credits. It is most effective with close up action shots of family and kids. (eg riding bikes, blowing out candles, video blogs to family abroad etc). Its not very good for long distance video shots like kids spots day, football game etc. Although the zoom is fairly effective, its not huge. All in all i love it and highly recommend it to others.
Flip Video Ultra High Definition Camcorder With 8GB Memory – Black : Is it as good as the reviews?. Flip video ultra high definition camcorder with 8gb memory – blackwe’ve had our flip ultra hd for a couple of months now, so we’ve had time to get used to it and look at its good and bad points. The good points :)it comes in a very beautifully designed box with well written instructions. It feels nice in your hand and has a good quality feel to it. The product is smaller than you probably anticipate. It’s not much bigger than some digital cameras. It is very simple to use, just point and shoot. The quality of the video is much better than i imagined it to be at this price range especially outdoors with natural light. Watch the videos you have shot on the display with good sound quality at the click of a buttonflip out the usb stick to download or just watch on your xbox, ps3 or laptop etc. Shoot up to 2 hrs of video on the hd720p – say no more.
