I bought this flip ultra hd 3rd generation after reading reviews in the gadget magazines. In just one day i have been to an exhibition, filmed some of the attractions and made a short video using the supplied software. I’ve also uploaded it to you tube and emailed the video to some friends. This is very highly recommended, light and easy to carry, fits in a trouser pocket, very easy to use, upload video to a computer, edit and send short movies to friends with. Picture quality is incredible.
Excellent, simple, not quite perfect. . This is a great little camcorder. It charges in just under 2 hours, and gives 2 hours of decent quality high definition video with great sound detail. Playback on the tiny monitor is acceptable, but on a mac or pc it comes into its own – quality is really excellent. Simple controls – start, stop, volume up, down. What i find slightly annoying is the fact that the usb connector comes out of the end of the device. I’m sure this is supposed to be a selling point, but if you own an imac i defy you to insert it easily and practically. You can either plug it into the keyboard ports, in which case it supports the weight of the keyboard, or you stick it round the back. Had to invest in a usb extender socket to plug it in.
Flip ultra hd 3rd generation 120 minutes recording, 8gb memory & image stabilisation – whitethis is such a cool little device and it’s such a shame that cisco is no longer making them (so my advice is to buy one whilst you can). It’s so easy to use, shoots great hd video footage, and is easy to download to a computer (in my case a mac) and then to edit quickly (using the in-built software) into a reasonable no-frills video. Posting the final result to facebook is so easy too, although for twitter users do watch the length of the finished video (as around 10 minutes or more just won’t upload, although there are get-arounds in such cases, eg twitvideo). In short, if you want a hd camcorder which you can slip in your pocket and when in use looks like a mobile phone (so people aren’t aware that you are filming) then get a flip – the best thing since sliced bread.
Good value for money – decent results – but large file sizes. . The flip ultra hd is a great bit of kit. Really easy to use, which is reflected in the miniscule instructional manual. You can be ready and filming within minutes (out of the box, the battery does need a few hours charging to be fully recharged). Picture and sound quality are very good. It’s not a professional camera, but then it only costs around £100. Given that you can pay anything upto £1000 for hd camcorders, this is fantastic value for money. There are next to no settings available on the flip, it is very much a point and shoot product, but that is what i like about it. It does a good job in most enviroments, and you don’t have to worry about having the right setting on the camera. Switch it on and you can be filming in about 3 seconds flat.
I decided to give myself some time to play around with this camera, thinking that i could give a fair and honest review rather than just jumping on my initial thoughts about it. Initially, i really wanted a hd camcorder in order to record short videos to post on you tube. After browsing about on the internet i found that this one was pretty popular in the you tube world, and found that quality test videos and reviews on you tube were pretty positive. However, upon using it for the first time i was quite disappointed. It seems that you only get good quality video when you film in a well lit environment. This may sound like an obvious assumption from the start, but to be honest, with the technology people are able to develop today, you’d think that we may be able to get our hands on something that will do a decent job in an environment that isn’t as clear as daylight. I filmed a video indoors, in a room with windows and daylight peering through, but yet the video quality once it had been transferred to my computer was pretty horrendous. There appeared to be no texture or detail in the face of the person on camera, and the colours didn’t even blend well at all. But before i decided to give a final opinion i thought i would at least try it outside – the results were very different.
Flip Ultra HD 3rd Generation 120 minutes recording, 8GB Memory & Image Stabilisation – Black (discontinued by manufacturer) : This is a ‘flipping’ good video camera. I wanted an easy to use recording camera so that i could create short videos for my amazon reviews. This camera has proved to be exactly what i wanted and so much more. As soon as it came out of its box all i needed to do was plug the usb that is attached to the camera into a port on my computer and leave it for approximately three hours to charge up. I like being able to charge it directly from the usb port as it means i don’t have to store yet another cable – and run the risk of losing it. Since the initial charge i have never needed to recharge it again fully. Every time i load my videos onto the computer the usb starts to recharge the camera whilst i am viewing what i have recorded and this has been enough to keep it ticking over. Once charged, i removed the camera from my computer, switched it on, pressed the record button and began to record – it was that simple to use. Loading the recorded files onto the computer is also just as simple. Plug in the usb once again, open up the folder containing the files and either view them directly from the camera or move them into a folder on your computer.
