It took me a while to work out which was the best flip camera to get (some of the older models appear at first glance to have more features) but i eventually realised this was the latest model (2nd generation) and purchased it. It’s super easy to use and the video quality is great for such a small device. I bought a tripod for when i’m doing presentations but it’s also invaluable on the road for doing quick interviews with customers, etc. It’s really easy to connect to the computer (if your usb port is in a weird place you might want to get a small usb extender cable) and videos can easily be shared on the web or imported in to video editing software for further processing if desired.
Great product for someone who has no interest in searching for specifications that they dont understand – this does everything that it says on the tin and would be good for someone aged 5 – old and passed it.
I am not very familiar with this type of very small camcorder and have had little experience using the camera/video camera function on mobile phones. With this in mind, i find the flip mino rather difficult to use – being so small and light, my video tended to have a rather obvious camera shake. Another point to bear in mind is that, although there is two hours’ worth of memory on the camcorder, a full charge of the camcorder is unlikely to last for this long (so you will not be able to film a solid 2 hours of video). The camcorder has a ‘pop out’ usb plug that can be inserted into a usb port for charging (whilst it can be charged from a socket, the charger is sold separately). Whilst this is convenient, plugging it into my pc tower left it dangling rather precariously – something i wouldn’t normally do with a piece of electronic equipment costing this muchon the positive side, the user interface is attractive and the few buttons make it quite simple to use. The zoom is also quite reasonable for general filming. I’m sure with more practice, there will be less camera shake, and the small size makes it unobtrusive to carry around for some spontaneous filming.
This has proved to be everything that we had hoped for and expected. It is very portable and simple to use. Being lightweight, it is also useful for filming on the move – we have recorded clips whilst walking the dogs. We would recommend this item. I need to change my opinion of this product. It worked through last summer and gave some very good results. However, when we tried to use it this summer it was ‘dead’. No amount of recharging the battery did any good and the battery is sealed and so not replaceable. It would appear that when not in use for a period of more than a few weeks, it should be recharged even if it is not intended for use in the immediate future, gerald law.
I love this camera and because it is so small i take it everywhere and with a click of a button you can capture great moments without waiting for the camera to load or having to go through 100 menus , also i was very surprised when i saw that it had a standard tripod mount which is a life saver for me because my had is shaking all the time. It also can survive a few drops and bashes with minor dents.264 (or mp4) which is good for people who just want to upload the footage straight away but when you put it through a program like after effects and re render it, it comes out pixelated (if set as h. 264) i use this for youtube videos and it comes out great. One thing it needs is a external mic jack i have a boom mic and i can’t use it with the camera (without wiring it up form the main mic)overall:good things:smalleasy to usegreat qualitytripod mountbad:no external mic jackvery shakey footagezoom is only 2.
Flip Mino High Definition Camcorder – 2nd Generation, 120 minutes recording – Brushed Metal : Flipping good but not brilliant. I must admit that when i first saw this little cam, i just thought “oh god look how tichy this thing is but from small things come great wonders. The cam was very easy to use and yes it does look like an ipod or one of those fancy mp3 players. I used this on a train trip to skegness. I have to say i was really impressed when i played the video back of what i had just recorded. The picture was very sharp and better than those old recordings that you used to do on your hand held camcorders. The sound was also sharp and i was expecting it to be very poor. In a noisy bar, i could hear all of what my family was saying as they ate their meals. The flip has one downside though and it is a big one. It can only record 2 hours (120mins) of footage before it shuts itself off, so make sure you are not recording a long event `cause you may be upset if the cam decides you have had your lot and you were trying to get that all important moment that you don’t see every day.
