Espresso & Cappuccino Machines

There was no way i was going to pay in excess of £300 for a coffee maker even though i was yearning for one. I also did not want to get tied into buying expensive brand only pods. So when this machine had a price crash (i paid £150 for mine) i took the plunge. I have had it for a little over a week now and using it a few times each day. I read reviews on another site that said a lot of the machines had stopped working but apparently some were shipped with the wrong fuse. This may explain that problem. Plus points:quick to warm up. The milk dispenser is semi self cleaning by pushing and holding a button. Delivers 1 or 2 cups of espressotakes ese pods or your ground coffee. It delivers ‘instant’ hot water if you want teayou can adjust the clearance under the nozzle for larger cups other than espresso cups. Delivers very good quality cappuccino, latte machatio and espresso all without too much fuss or having to learn to be a barista. Gets a good crema on your drinkpoorer pointsthe milk dispenser has a protruding piece of plastic that pushes into the main body.

Writing this after living with the machine for about 4 months. Overall, very pleased with it, and would purchase again. Main reason for getting was the cappaccino feature. I have never been good at frothing milk manually, and it makes a mess and takes longer. So, this has been a godsend. The milk frothing generally works great and is reliable. (i have found that it’s best to ‘clean’ the frother twice before you use it, and twice after, in order to reliably get frothy milk with volume – if you only do it once, things seem to get clogged up and you end up with frothed milk with little or no volume. It produces proper hot coffee too, my last cheaper machine was not really hot.

For the price, this is an excellent coffee machine. I’ve owned a couple of espresso machines over the years. Most lasted about a year and then died and needed replacing. I wasn’t sad to see any of them go, they made an ok cup of coffee, end of story. My last krups system gave up the ghost in september and this little baby was on special offer at amazon, so i decided to give it a go. Wow, what a difference – this machine is in a different league to most other domestic machines i’ve owned/used/drunk coffee from. Quick to heat up, quiet (in comparison to my old machines, not quiet compared to a toaster you understand, but relatively quite for what it is), has some nifty features such as the milk nozzle cleaning after use and the programmable temperature, adjustable water delivery time through the espresso powder as well as water filter built into the (well-hidden) water tank. If i was pushed to give a negative, its a little on the large side, but at making great coffee, it’s simply fantastic.

De’Longhi EC850.M Pump Espresso with Simple Touch Milk Carafe : I used to have a tassimo machine it made nice coffee but was only used a few times a month as its so expensive for the coffee pods, cappuccino pods were about 56p a drinki decided to invest in the delonghi, its a great looking machine, instructions are very clear and easy to understand. The machine takes ground coffee or coffee pods, lidl sell coffee pods in 3 varaties for £1. 3p ea) and it works very well with the delonghi, even cheaper if you buy ground coffeeour family can now have lovely cappuccinos and very reasonable price compared to the tassimoupdate: after less than a month it has broken down, milk frother not frothing, followed cleaning cycle after every use , returned for refund.

Reliable, long lasting machine if well looked after. Had on of these for around 4 years with no issues. Comments that it does not produce hot enough drinks are fair, though i have found adjusting the temperature setting to the highest level produces an acceptable temperature (not to hot, not to cold). Also highly recommend descaling regularly, the red button flashing is a handy reminder, though you can also sometimes notice the hot milk function struggles when it needs a good descale. De’longhi coffee maker descaler, 0. 5 litreyou do need to reprogramme if you unplug it for a period of time. When and if it breaks, i’ll probably buy another to replace it.

I had to re modify the review because we need to understand the machine first. I thought it is broken when the hot water indicator kept flashing. Then someone here in amazon suggested removing the air from the water by using the black nossel that we use to make tea. I love this machine and it really works great. I’m sorry for that pre judge as we need first to understand how these machines work.

Versatile machine but with reliability issues. Worked perfectly for 9 months then if started to struggle. Sent back to manufacturer to perform maintenance repair. Working again but not 100% right. They also damaged the structure and the left side panel flaps about as they broke the tabs the hold the side on. When it was new it was great, ese is ultra convenient plus the standard basket let’s you go for gourmet coffee too. The milk frothed perfectly and it has seen some serious usage. Reliability is an issue and if it can limp through christmas i will be happy at that.

Well-made/robust and produces good coffee with an excellent automatic ‘milk froth’ capability – pricey. . I’ve owned this 850 model for about a year and have been very happy with it. It is robust and produces good coffee (espresso or coffee/milk drinks) with an especially excellent automatic ‘milk froth’ capability; no need to diy with a milk jug/frother nozzle etc – for me this is a significant capability you can also get hot water/make tea if you wish. . —–i think it’s worth mentioning from the outset that the 4 drink option buttons produce ‘just’ 2 types of drink automatically; what the doubling-up of those buttons allows you to do is precisely program different volumes of coffee with 2 buttons and different ratios of milk vs coffee with the other 2. So, if larger liquid volumes are programmed a ‘latte macchiato’ is made (as opposed to a ‘cappuccino’) since your programmed amount of frothed milk is dispensed first, followed by your programmed amount of coffee – a ‘latte’ is made coffee first. I say that as i also own a philips senseo latte select, which also froths milk automatically, but which can produce both a ‘latte’ and a ‘latte macchiato’ (as well as cappuccino) since the milk/coffee dispensing is done in the necessary order as required. Some more quick comparative comments on this model later on. . However, as this machine is ‘logic-controlled’ you can interrupt/’skip’ the milk/coffee automatic process (the user guide does mention this ) – so, you can manually make ‘latte macchiato’ quite easily since you first use the coffee process then the ‘latte’ process, stopping it after it has added the milk = coffee first then milk = ‘latte macchiato’ —–i like this de’longhi so much so that i bought (second-hand) the newer 860 model, which adds a switchable cup warmer and a nozzle milk frother option (this 850 only has a nozzle to dispense hot water). Aside from that i believe that the 2 models are identical. I now use the 860 instead, with the 850 in storage should (when ?) the 860 pack-up this machine is essentially ‘computer-controlled’, with the bank of 6 push-buttons on the left offering far more options when pressed in combination with other buttons and/or pressed for differing durations.

We were quite happy with the machine just until last week. Since then the frother is not working any more. We bought the machine in august 2013. It is quite new and the coffee is still great. Can somebody help how to fix the problem?.

Great coffee but you need the proper size cup. Great coffee but you need the proper size cup. The milk can give a challenge when the cup is too big. Take the time to read the manual then it is easy to use.
