Incredible performer if you have sennheiser hd650/600. . More than impressed by how well it drives my sennheiser hd650, which is the purpose it was bought for. I do not consider myself an audiophile: i love, not hate, fiddling with eq until my personal preferences are satisfied. The eq of the creative central mobile app is far more effective than the one found on poweramp and, i dare, even more than the excellent parametric eq of usb audio pro. The e5 can drive, on high gain, the hd650 much better than my other 2 mobile amp/dac, dragonfly black and fiio q1, which can do the job, yes, but with less brilliant results. The dragonfly will also reduce the battery life of your mobile device as it drawas power from there: the q1 and e5 won’t. The q1 happens to have longer battery life than the e5 and costs roughly half the price: if you use it to power headphones with impedence up to 150 ohm it should possibly be considered a better value, unless you need bluetooth, which in my view makes the e5 unique and a total winner. You can use it without running a wire from the music source which is a significant plus. Concerning dac performance, i doubt anyone will be disappointed. For music purists, eq-haters, and style-driven junkies perhaps the classy looking oppo he-2 might be a better, but significantly more expensive, choice.

Deliver new life to your music and a big smile on your face. This is one of those rare things that you never knew you needed but once you’ve experienced it you will never be able to go back. I was skeptical about paying this much simply because i didn’t know what to expect but i have not been able to take my headphones off since purchasing. This little thing is so incredible and so versatile it enhances the music coming out of everything in my house. The audio quality is outstanding, everything sounds crisper and it has an extremely broad low frequency range that delivers such satisfying punchy bass. The list of things this thing can do is too long to even talk about just buy, buy, buy this thing is worth every penny.

Great for driving sennheiser headphones. I have 2 pairs of studio quality sennheiser headphones which are notoriously difficult to drive cleanly. This little headphone amplifier does the job perfectly. Using the optical output from my denon cd player into the optical inputs on the sound blaster e5 was a revelation. I heard things in my cds for the 1st time. Then a further revelation using bluetooth from my computer, to play flac files (a lossless format) was simply superb. The final experiment was to use bluetooth from my mobile phone and again the sound was superb.

Great little device, good improvement on headphone output on all my gear.

First time i have ever written a review, but i felt i had to rave about the e5. I have been using a pioneer hi-res player streaming from qobuz into stax electrostatic ear speakers with a valve energiser, but i had to return the player to have it repaired. For the last month i have been listening via my iphone, but it is not in the same league. I saw the reviews of this item, and thought it was worth a try since i could also use it to feed stereo signals into various musical apps on my ipad. As soon is i connected it to the ipad and started to listen to some of my favourite tracks i was absolutely amazed at the quality. Obviously i can’t do a direct comparison with the pioneer, but i feel that the stax ear speakers have never sounded better, and they are well known for their transparency. The app is also excellent, and i can make subtle or extreme changes to suit older recordings. Still plenty to investigate, eg bluetooth, but so far i am delighted.

Reviews from purchasers :

  • Excellent device.
  • So the product itself is pretty damn good
  • A very satisfied customerwho bought this instead of a Fostex/Teac/Sonyand has used Fiio.

A must for an iphone and music on the go.

I have to say that a dedicated headphone amplifier does seem a little extreme. I listen to music everywhere and in many different ways. More and more though through my phone. I tend to listen to spotify or music from my nas at night on my phone through headphones as it helps me go to sleep. I do have quite a few flac files so thought i would try those using the e5. At first it seemed a little weird to be connecting my phone to this unit then attaching my headphones to the unit to listen to music rather than just simply connected my headphones to the phone. However, there is a noticeable different in quality when listening to music through the e5. The clarity is stunning although having a decent pair of headphones certainly helps. I did try my sons £20 headphones and suprisingly the music again sounded much better, brighter.

Use with bayerdynamic dt990 high impedance headphones. Difficult to imagine a better amp at any price.

It is not better than any half. It is not better than any half decent dac in any modern laptop. I have better sound from my macbook pro with sennheiser hd600.

I’ve used this on both a mac and a windows pc in addition to an iphone and it really performs admirably. It’s more a soundcard than a headphone amp. From the front of the device there are two headphone ports that can drive music at the same time. The headphone ports provide a slightly higher output from the back and are also designed to work with the gain switch, which switches between low gain and high gain. The low gain is what most people would use (16-20ohm), high gain is for high-impedence headphones (120-600ohm) or, if you’re practically deaf, it’ll add more volume to standard headphones. This has the ability to put out a tremendous volume so don’t go nutsthe volume knob when used in windows/mac will control the operating system’s volume, rather than its own separate volume. It also operates as a button when connected to the iphone, which acts in the same way as a button on headphones (play/pause, etc). Going round to the side the power button i think could’ve done with shorter presses. When it’s off, holding it for about 2s turns it on, rather than it coming on straight away.

So the product itself is pretty damn good. So the product itself is pretty damn good, great set of software options (software itself is very good and user friendly), connected well up to my pc, mic and my phone when using it on the go. Paired with my sennheiser hd8 dj’s it was more than loud enough for rather high impedance headphones. But sadly it has a few downsides, some minor and some major, the downsides of the product are:price – it’s a bit much, and doesn’t sound as good as the much cheaper “creative sb x-fi surround 5. 1 pro” which is what i have replaced this product with (though it’s not mobile and software looks old)heat – can get rather toasty while it sits charging, minor problem but can be warmer than you’d want when you go to take it with you. Durability – it’s built like a brick, but after 16 months mine has stopped charging properly, continuously disconnects and is now a useless brick. Warranty – only 12 months, you have 1 year from date of purchase in terms of cover, for a product of that premium that’s not enough, should be 24-36 months. Overall i would say it a great product for mobile use but be aware of short warranty length, if you want solely desktop use i would easily recommend the dac i mentioned above over this for under half the price.

Does exactly as its needed. . I have used this for various purposes:on my pc to power my hd650 headphones (power via usb)on my piano to power 2 sets of headphones (power via built in battery)in my car to provide bluetooth audio as it only supports an aux in (power via built in battery)the sound quality is excellent, you can tune the sbx button on the device to sound exactly how you want. More/less bass or change the eq and then toggle it on/off as needed. Turning the volume control on the device actually changes the volume in windows, which is then remembered if you unplug the device. I’m tempted to buy a second one as a permanent addition to my car stereo.

This is a cracking piece of kit. Your music will sound like you are listening at a live concert. Never had my music sounded so good. Dropped 1 star due to item getting hot after about an hours use.

This is the best piece of audio tech i have ever bought and i have been buying audio related stuff for over 30 years, if it is on the audio this will pick it out whether that,s a film soundtrack or a cd recording listened to the film jaws last night through this device plugged into a ipad pro and it was like i was listening to a brand new soundtrack blew me away really and i don’t get easily impressed. Last month i got the chord mojo unfortunately my unit had to be returned and will go out on a limb and say this is better ,better sound and better connection wise try one you have nothing to lose with amazon’s return policy you will be very impressed.

The sound quality is superb. My only gripe is that it is a bit of a faff when recharging the batteries.

The e5 works as advertised no seriously, it does. I’m not an audiophile and have only just purchased my first pair of ‘audiophiley’ headphones, in the shape of a pair of sennheiser hd650’s. I then had the task of finding an amp to suit my needs; i had to be able to connect it to my phone, pc and consoles. The e5 hit the mark absolutely on the head. I have tried it in the following arrangements, all with the hd650’s:1. Bluetooth on my lg g3 works wonderfully to play flac tracks via the poweramp app. Nice 8 hours battery (not tested fully) but shouldn’t be a problem because of the awesome battery power indicator lights, set of 3. Connected to my astro mixamp using a quality 3. This is so that i can listen in dolby digital from the xbox, for a nice virtual surround sound. I turn the sbx off (e5’s built in surround sound) so i don’t over process the signal. With the mixamp turned up to 90% you can then adjust with the e5 volume control. E5 directly connected to xbox one using mini toslink. Because the e5 can’t decode dolby or dts, you have to change the xbox audio output to ‘stereo uncompressed’. The sbx turned on gives you virtual surround sound. I tried this to cut out the middle man to see if it sounded differently without the mixamp.

. And they are great, in their way. However, the e5 is an exquisite device and is several steps above. For this reason i have to say it is very reasonably priced. Bluetooth/nfc adds a new dimension to it’s use, together with the pc management console s/w. Linking via the e5, connected to my small but excellent bose companion 3 sii speaker system (kitchen-based), music from each of my 3 smartphones is utterly astounding. Everyone who has heard it just could not believe it was coming from a smartphone, even a top-end one. Some small devices have a jewel-like quality, e. The sony mz-rh1 hi-md minidisk recorder/player.

Cannot listen to music now without one, its so good. First thig to say about this review is that the initial received e5 blaster was faulty (it wouldn’t turn off) after contacting creative warranty department, they were quick to replace the e5 item with a working unit which this review is based on. Primarily used for listening to music (320kps mp3), watching films on my laptop and playing xbox; using the following iems and headphone:sennheiser hd25 iiwestone 4rgrado gr10dunu dn2000yamaha eph- 100out of the iems tested the most beneficial were the westone 4r and the dunu dn200 which both utilize balanced armature drivers. Sound:wow, well what to say. The moment you plug the e5 in you’ll notice how rich, clear and distortion free the sound is. Percussion is organic, melodies sing out, and soundscapes envelope. You really will want to hear your entire music library all over again. Instrumental separation is empathised, you get this grand feeling of headspace, and in it, are all the parts of the song, vocals over here, bass guitar over there, rhythm guitar behind, and all the rest of the instruments of the band/orchestra intricately placed everywhere else. The sounds come at you from all directions but always balanced creating an overarching exciting listening experience. I tested the e5 with huge spectrum of music types and subgenres from drum and bass, jungle, house, hip hop, dubstep to hard rock, heavy metal, orchestra, classical, blues, jazz and opera; it excelled in reproducing them all.
