Incredible performer if you have sennheiser hd650/600. . More than impressed by how well it drives my sennheiser hd650, which is the purpose it was bought for. I do not consider myself an audiophile: i love, not hate, fiddling with eq until my personal preferences are satisfied. The eq of the creative central mobile app is far more effective than the one found on poweramp and, i dare, even more than the excellent parametric eq of usb audio pro. The e5 can drive, on high gain, the hd650 much better than my other 2 mobile amp/dac, dragonfly black and fiio q1, which can do the job, yes, but with less brilliant results. The dragonfly will also reduce the battery life of your mobile device as it drawas power from there: the q1 and e5 won’t. The q1 happens to have longer battery life than the e5 and costs roughly half the price: if you use it to power headphones with impedence up to 150 ohm it should possibly be considered a better value, unless you need bluetooth, which in my view makes the e5 unique and a total winner. You can use it without running a wire from the music source which is a significant plus. Concerning dac performance, i doubt anyone will be disappointed. For music purists, eq-haters, and style-driven junkies perhaps the classy looking oppo he-2 might be a better, but significantly more expensive, choice.
Deliver new life to your music and a big smile on your face. This is one of those rare things that you never knew you needed but once you’ve experienced it you will never be able to go back. I was skeptical about paying this much simply because i didn’t know what to expect but i have not been able to take my headphones off since purchasing. This little thing is so incredible and so versatile it enhances the music coming out of everything in my house. The audio quality is outstanding, everything sounds crisper and it has an extremely broad low frequency range that delivers such satisfying punchy bass. The list of things this thing can do is too long to even talk about just buy, buy, buy this thing is worth every penny.
Great for driving sennheiser headphones. I have 2 pairs of studio quality sennheiser headphones which are notoriously difficult to drive cleanly. This little headphone amplifier does the job perfectly. Using the optical output from my denon cd player into the optical inputs on the sound blaster e5 was a revelation. I heard things in my cds for the 1st time. Then a further revelation using bluetooth from my computer, to play flac files (a lossless format) was simply superb. The final experiment was to use bluetooth from my mobile phone and again the sound was superb.
Great little device, good improvement on headphone output on all my gear.
First time i have ever written a review, but i felt i had to rave about the e5. I have been using a pioneer hi-res player streaming from qobuz into stax electrostatic ear speakers with a valve energiser, but i had to return the player to have it repaired. For the last month i have been listening via my iphone, but it is not in the same league. I saw the reviews of this item, and thought it was worth a try since i could also use it to feed stereo signals into various musical apps on my ipad. As soon is i connected it to the ipad and started to listen to some of my favourite tracks i was absolutely amazed at the quality. Obviously i can’t do a direct comparison with the pioneer, but i feel that the stax ear speakers have never sounded better, and they are well known for their transparency. The app is also excellent, and i can make subtle or extreme changes to suit older recordings. Still plenty to investigate, eg bluetooth, but so far i am delighted.
Reviews from purchasers :
- Excellent device.
- So the product itself is pretty damn good
- A very satisfied customerwho bought this instead of a Fostex/Teac/Sonyand has used Fiio.
A must for an iphone and music on the go.
I have to say that a dedicated headphone amplifier does seem a little extreme. I listen to music everywhere and in many different ways. More and more though through my phone. I tend to listen to spotify or music from my nas at night on my phone through headphones as it helps me go to sleep. I do have quite a few flac files so thought i would try those using the e5. At first it seemed a little weird to be connecting my phone to this unit then attaching my headphones to the unit to listen to music rather than just simply connected my headphones to the phone. However, there is a noticeable different in quality when listening to music through the e5. The clarity is stunning although having a decent pair of headphones certainly helps. I did try my sons £20 headphones and suprisingly the music again sounded much better, brighter.
