Canon MV600i Digital Camcorder [Mini-DV 18xOptical DV-in/out], A great buy but be aware of its limitations

This is our 1st camcorder, while we are equally eager slr buyers so predicted a good deal from it. The mv600i has surely lived up to anticipations. It is an exceptional camcorder and superior worth for funds. Photograph quality is incredibly excellent, with correct colors and clear, sharp images. We have observed the 18x optical zoom extremely useful. Numerous other camcorders have only a 10x zoom. The zoom button is smooth to use and uncomplicated to handle for the desired pace of zoom. Electronic impression stabilization certainly aids at complete optical zoom. The viewfinder is clear while i assume a little around uncovered.

Lots of features for low price. The cannon mv 600i boasts a heap of features that you would normally only find on more expensive camcorders. Its mini dv format captures and delivers sharp quality pictures and sound, the weight is perfect and its really easy to use. Its dv in and out make transfering and editing your videos a breeze. The ability to use it as an analouge to digital converter is also a bonus too. My only critisim is that the battery could last a little longer and the lens could be a little wider. Other than that a fully featured dv camcorder at a very reasonable price.

Canon mv selection of camcorders. Fantastic camera loaded with goodies. Significant grumble is very low mild circumstances. The mv600i has a very low mild selection but is virtually ineffective. That apart its a very good digicam, quick to use and a very good value for the function record.

This is the type of gizmo i like – nice and easy. I am not fascinated in reading through manuals for hours on finish or hoping to try to remember which buttons to press. Depart the ‘corder on automobile exposure, commence recording and absent you go. The only other factor you have to participate in about with is the concentration. This is an superb ‘corder for complete newbies like me who-one) never utilised one particular in advance of. 2) aren’t too worried if the desired effect is not of a hollywood standard(thats why you acquire the enhancing software). three) just working with for vacations etcthe only gripe is deficiency of a firewire card and cable which are a need to if you want to obtain onto a computer so element that into the over-all price. The ‘corder will come with a dv out facility so downloading on to the laptop won’t consider for at any time. I am pretty happy with the end result.

Particularly one calendar year right after getting this digital camera i lost all pictures in viewfinder or display screen when taking films but could get an image when reviewing now recorded product. Following studying forums i contacted canon who changed a defective ccd for the reason that it was a recognised problem foc i have had no problems since.

Canon MV600i Digital Camcorder [Mini-DV 18xOptical DV-in/out] : I basically agree with what other reviewers are saying. This is my first video camera and we are very happy with it. But i have noticed the poor quality results you get in lower light/indoor situations. Now i make sure i get as much extra light as possible when shooting indoors by turning on the lights, and getting as much extra light in as possible through the windows. I also noticed that the image stabelizer didn’t seem to be doing as good a job as i thought it would. In fact at first i thought it wasn’t turned on. I would be interested to see how it compares to other brands. I think i will end up buying a wide angle lens attachment as i think it would certainly help when shooting indoors as it can be difficult to get everything in you want at the same time. The outdoor quality/in good light situations is exceptional and i guess is why the camera is rated so well.

Exactly one year after purchasing this camera i lost all images in viewfinder or screen when taking movies yet could get an image when reviewing already recorded material. After reading forums i contacted canon who replaced a faulty ccd because it was a known issue foc i have had no problems since.

Video form this camcorder suffers from poor resolution. I had bought this camcorder based on the above reviews. I wouldn’t have bought it if i had known how poor the video quality would be. Its not worth recording on a cd to show to my family. They would probably laugh at me for wasting my money on this camcorder. I would probably sell it or give it away to a charity shop.

I can only think of 1 word to describe this technological masterpiece: wow. I have had little experience with camcorders and when i purchased the canon mv600i from amazon i expected a pretty basic camcorder (due to the price) i couldnt have been more wrong. The picture is really sharp in and outside. The are hundreds of other cool features that i definitely a bonus. I highly recommend magix movie edit pro if you want to edit your footage its quick, cheap easy 2 use and u can still make movies like pros.

Excellent entry level camcorder. The mv600i is a great little camcorder and you will not get the same features in another model at anything like this price. On the plus side, the features which make it outstanding are, av-dv passthrough which means you can copy your old 8mm or vhs archives to dv and then use a non linear editor to edit or improve them. It has a good feature count for in camera effects. It is small, well built (though very light) and ergonomic. The dv quality footage is excellent, far in front of 8mm analogue. None really, although if want to shoot a lot in poor light you will need a videolight. The battery life is normal for a product of this type and longer lasting battery packs are available from the likes of uniross for around £20. Some people have said that the motor noise intrudes on the recording but i have not experienced this.

I looked around for ages to make sure i made the right choice when buying a camcorder. I have not been disappointed with its performance. Its 18x zoom is wicked and allows you to get really close to otherwise far away objects. I know the digital zoom ain’t much use but all camcorders seem to invest in this pointless feature. Shooting in low light slows the shutter speed and hence moving targets blur when shooting. However this can be avoided with a light mounted on the accessory shoe. I recommend buying extra batteries due to the average battery life. The quality of picture is fantastic, don’t be put off it is slightly grainy on the flip screen cos on the pc the quality is much better. The dv in is a great feature only usually found on more expensive camcorders it allows you to put footage back onto the mini dv tapes which are tiny and easy to carry you can then plug the camera into the tv and watch your edited films.

Basically a good camera in good light, but quality deteriorates rapidly in poor light conditions. Most frustrating is the fact that the software provided with the camera only runs on windows xp.

The equivalent panasonic is smaller and over 100g lighter, but the canon won on lens quality, optical zoom (x18) and software. The camera has everything you need for basic camcorder usage. There is no lamp, but the night mode is so effective that there is no need. As with all small, cheap camcorders, the sound is often obliterated by the wind, but is of sufficient quality when pointed in the right direction. The picture quality is excellent, with clear definition, excellent colours and fine clarity. Linking with the pc has been seamless, and video editing is now half the fun. There is no memory card in this model, but if you want decent stills, buy a digital camera.

Last time i used a movie camera, it was 9. Within minutes this advanced fully featured mini-dv camcorder had won me over. It was so easy to understand how everything worked. For people who want a camcorder that has the important features, but not the gimmicks, then i would suggest the mv600i my first 2 minute masterpiece was simplicity itself and the result was excellent.

I traded in my panasonic ds29b for this – i wanted asmaller camera with dv in. After much research invideo magazines i went for the canon. Compared to the cheaperpanasonic this is very slow to respond(focus and exposure),not as good in low light, has a noisy motor(the panasonicwas silent) and the zoom has a noisy clunk at each end ifyou are not careful. The good news is that it is much easier to use – thebig buttons are great, and the picture quality in goodlight is excellent. For a first buy this would be agreat introduction to video, but if you’ve used anyother video(digital or analog) you may be slightlydissappointed – i am.

This is the type of gizmo i like – nice and simple. I’m not interested in reading manuals for hours on end or trying to remember which buttons to press. Leave the ‘corder on auto exposure, start recording and away you go. The only other thing you have to play about with is the focus. This is an excellent ‘corder for total beginners like me who;-1) never used one before. 2) aren’t too concerned if the desired effect is not of a hollywood standard(thats why you buy the editing software). 3) just using for holidays etcthe only gripe is lack of a firewire card and cable which are a must if you want to download onto a pc so factor that into the overall cost. The ‘corder comes with a dv out facility so downloading onto the pc won’t take for ever. I am very pleased with the outcome.

Simple to use but sophisticated camcorder. My buying motive was a complete but simple camcorder light enough to carry on holiday in a very small bumbag, user-friendly in the palm of my hand yet able to be programmed for more advanced photography when necessary. After a couple of week’s window shopping, and poring over the specifications of dozens of camcorders i decided that the canon 600i had everything that i wanted plus a conveniently slim shape and styling which not only felt right, but looked ideal for the job. Many other makes had similar specifications but were more ‘square’ in the hand – making my fingers feel like a bunch of bananas. The 600i fits my hand like a glovei was somewhat taken aback to find that the accompanying software was designed to work only with windows xp, but its purpose is to provide internet video-conferencing etc. Which i doubt i (or most other users) would ever use. If i upgrade to xp in the future, however, i shall have this dubious facility. It almost goes without saying that the canon lens system is superb the 18x optical / 360x digital zoom being very smooth and ably supported by the image stabilizer. The picture viewed on a full size tv screen with cd quality digital sound is infinitely better than i have been used to from my earlier analogue camcorder. 5″ lcd screen is extremely clear and packed with useful data ref. Tape, time, date exposure etc. All of this is duplicated in the colour viewfinder (which i’d anticipated as an unnecessary luxury, but which i now prefer over the conventional b & w) and can be switched off if required. There are two modes of operation: simple auto exposure or a programme of eight exposure programmes. Most people will stay with the simple setting, but the others will be invaluable in the appropriate settings (night, snow etc.

Canon mv600ii read all the video magazines for about 3 months before buying. For the low to mid range buyer there seemed to be only one logical choice. Reviewers all praised the ergonomics, the handling and the picture quality. Having bought one i can add. The ease of operation is superb. If your’ in a hurry, it’s quick to set to full automatic mode, and the results are great. If you’ve got time and want to manually set the camera up, fine that’s really easy too and the results superb. The large buttons on the upper face have dual functions, transport and manual override.

First let me say the quality of this camcorder is exceptional. To test it out we took it to the local wildlife park and got some very high quality footage. The camera is very easy to use and the menu system a breeze to navigate. There are many digital effects to choose from all of good quality but these, in reality, are gimmicks. Indoor quality in low light is grainy but acceptable. Having looked at a lot of low end camcorders i have to say i am very pleased with my purchase. Now i just need a better computer so i can start making the most of the digital side of video editing. While the footage we shot is good, no one wants to sit through an eight hour epic :)hope that helps, gareth.

Canon MD205 Digital MiniDV Camcorder, great little camcorder

This is a great camcorder for the price tag. The 36x zoom is excellent, and the impression stabilisation works pretty effectively. It really is rather lightweight and will suit neatly into a coat pocket. Picture high quality is not as good as more high-priced styles, but for filming household holiday …
