Bowers & Wilkins P9 Signature HiFi Over Ear Headphones : The best headphones I ever had.

These are the best headphones i’ve ever listened to. I recently owned p7s and these are a step up in quality from those with extra clarity depending on the quality of recordings you are listening to with a more detailed open sound you will hearextra detail in songs that you hadn’t heard beforepros: incredible rich sound with excellent bass and clear treble without being harshcons: still expensive but a worthy investment.

The best headphones i ever had. . These are the best headphones i ever had. Bowers & wilkins products are consistently excellent.

I love the b&w range of headphones so i as only too eager to try these especially as these are the 50th anniversary signature release. B&w generally release a special edition speakers when celebrating milestones, but these come at a huge premium over their standard range. So this is a first and also the most affordable special edition release from b&w even though these are very expensive set of headphones. These b&w headphones are the largest over ear headphones in the range, larger than the p7. To stand out, these are also the only b&w headphones which are brown. The construction of these headphones are exquisite. Beautiful cross hatched leather sounding the outside of the cups and headband. Anodised aluminium frame which has a sense of engineering, beautiful chrome hinges and surrounds around the speaker. The cups have a memory foam with leather surround providing comfort for hours of use with plenty of space for air inside the cups helping with ventilation and sound enhancement.

Comments from buyers

“*Updated* View these as hi-fi quality headphones that can also be used with a phone/tablet if you want to get your money’s worth, The best headphones I ever had., Luxurious in every sense although very expensive. Need to be driven hard!”

I’ve been an audiophile for over a decade and own several high end valve amps and speakers. I was usually cynical about how much audio experience headphones can bring compared to what you would hear from fine-tuned high end audio system. But i was utterly blown away by the quality of the sound produced by these headphones. I reckon these headphones were designed under b&w’s philosophy to bring the in-room high end audio experiences to the headphones and did a magnificent job in that. The only downside for the most of people is that these are quite chunky to carry and wear outdoors and not so soundproofed that people next to you can hear the sound leaking out of them. Reversly, they are very weak in noise cancellation and may not be the best choice if you want something to listen to when travelling in trains or airplanes. Simply put, these are the headphones most desirable for serious music listeners who want some sort of sophisticated audio experiences in quiet places and are very analytical to the sounds of various musical instruments (strings, wind, piano, etc) probablly in the genre of classical music.

The sound excellent pay for p 9 best p7 so so.

Luxurious in every sense although very expensive. Bowers and wilkins may not be quite as familiar a brand as will others but they have long been a prestigious british manufacturer of loudspeakers and more recently of headphones. B&w have always held a reputation for quality, not just build but for sound reproduction and some of their loudspeakers have been used for reference purposes by recording studios as they are considered for their accurate reproduction. It should be noted that they are low impedance but do not produce the same type of audio level as other phones may. A headphone amplifier may be an essential addition whatever your setup. Although their impedance is within the scope of devices supporting 16ohm phones and up, they are wholly unsuited for use with any mobile device and may not match well even if a portable headphone amp were used; they were tried with one such pair of devices purely as a test and were almost inaudible when the high impedance setting was used on the player and volume on both components were set to maximum. Realistically, few would want to use a £700 pair of phones outdoorsthe p9 is the top-of-range headphone and the only one to be fully wired; some of the lesser models can be used wirelessly but allow a cable to be used should the power die or bluetooth not be available. The finish is luxurious with italian leather used over metal (mostly aluminium) rather than the plastics used by others. They are of a fully enclosed design and the ear-pieces are huge, fitting around the ears with room to spare.

This is my 5th pair of over-ear/on-ear headphones, where i currently have brands such as akg, sennheiser and b&o (2-400 euro bracket). I bought these for listening to music while working from home and felt that something was lacking from my other headphones (they are still amazing in their own way and still serve a purpose, but those are just better). They are exactly what i’d expect from headphones in this price range. Great audio, range and bass, and look great (been trying them with electronic, classical, and everything in between and they haven’t let me down once). They might feel a bit strange just when you put them on, but are actually very comfortable. To change the cord you just pull of the inner part of the headset which is magnetic, i didn’t realize this as i tend to never read the manual, so just as an fyi in case someone else is the same :)highly recommended.

I purchased my p9 signature in july this year and absolutely love them. One reviewer complained of poor sound and sent them back after an audition. I did my homework and read many reviews on the p9. You have give these headphones some burning in time to bring out their best. I connected them up to my nas drive and played music for at least 50 hours. They sound hard and cold (as do most hi-end headphones) right out the box. If you’re going to pay for expensive headphones it would stand to reason, to me anyway, your going to either use a good quality headphone amp ( i use a chord mojo), or you have a good quality dap. Astell & kern ak70mk2, or better still their model kann. Finally i listen to either cd quality music files, or tidal hi-res streaming.

Great sounding headphones, highly recommended. I have been using my p9s for about a year and can’t recommend them highly enough. These are great pair of headphones for almost all genres. P9s don’t require lot of power to drive and should work nicely with a smartphone but if you want to maximise the your return on investment / listening pleasure, i recommend using a dac/amp like chord mojo or dragonfly. I use them with my dragonfly reds and the difference is night and day. And of course, it goes without saying that with such great headphones quality of input is of utmost importance, garbage in garbage out, so make sure you have high quality music to enjoy these to the fullest. In terms of negatives, there are couple of issues. Firstly, these headphones leak sound if played loudly (say 70% or more), so if you play your music loud during commute, your co-passengers will hear your music. Secondly, b&w promised a lightning cable in early 2017 but i haven’t received mine and latest i heard is end of october. I look forward to how b&w’s lightning cable compare vs using these headphones with a dedicated dac plugged in to my iphone.

Best sound ever and the design awsome. Greatest headphones ever owned. High price, but worth every penny.

Probably the best headphones for this price that i have ever heard. They have a tangible solid bass and elicit lots of detail butwithout sounding harsh or tiring. Some people like ‘sparkling’ treble, but what you want is neutrality because brightness is tiringover long listening periods. They have one design feature that makes them stand out against over headphone designs. The abilityto remove and swap the cables by simply removing the magnetised covers and then unplugging the cables via a minjack port is brilliant. Cables can be damaged or even have the headphone jack bent. Very costly if you cannot replace the cable at this price range, basicallya no brainer. Add to this the bomb proof build quality and bowers and wilkins superb warranty service ( they had a spare tweeter for a 10 year oldcenter speaker) and the high price is justified in the long term.

I love listening to music with these. I have the p7s, which are also excellent. The sound is more expansive and the tonal quality of instruments is fantastic. There are certain songs (perfect day)that when listening i feel as if i am in the studio listening to the original recording. I haven’t reconciled myself with the amount of money they cost.

Awesome, but not the practical option they may purport to be, or some professional reviews imply. . There are some well written, long and descriptive reviews on here, so i will just add my twopenneth and keep my warning about them short’ish. I am a music lover, but wouldn’t call myself an audiophile. I love the sound of vinyl, through a nad amp, also partnered with b&w (cm7’s), and have shure 846’s for on the move. I can’t see myself ever stretching above these price points as having reached these levels of listening pleasure, each set up sounds good enough now for my needs. Quite simply, and once run in – these are sublime. Five stars on the basis of the pure sound quality. However, i am reviewing them to offer a warning. I purchased these to replace my bose qc25’s for long haul and noisy trains.

Price does not justify the sound. I tried those together with fostex th900mk2 and audeze lcd2. While b&w are cheaper £200-300, they are also quite “narrow” regarding a sound stage. Both lows and highs are sounding expanded and quite close to each other while mids are struggling somewhere in between. P9 do have a feel of quite well build and definitely not cheap. But the price tag absolutely does not justify the sound. My personal choice would be sennheiser momentum 2. £200) over these cans at any time but than again, it’s a matter of personal preference. I would certainly recommend trying fostex th900mk2 and audeze lcd2 before buying p9’s as £200-300 more will take you to an entirely different universe.

Simply superb. Music how it was meant to be heard. . So, would you pay £700 for a pair of headphone is the question and i can answer that in one word yes. Never heard of bowers and wilkins??. Well they make some of the most respected audiophile speakers available, some costing upwards of £30,000, i am lucky enough to own a pair of their 601 speakers, these are in their budget range but cost me £600 in the late 80’s and i’ve always been very happy with them. These headphones from bowers and wilkins are a special 50th anniversary edition. The first time you have these headphones in your hands it’s then you realise the sheer quality of them, they are built exceptionally well and top quality materials are used to produce them, from the aluminium headband to the italian leather ear cups everything oozes quality. B & w supply these headphones with no less than 3 cables , a 1. 8 metre with controller/microphone, a 1. 8 metre cable with no controller and a extra long cable for listening freedom, each cable terminates in a 3. 5mm plug but b & w have supplied an adaptor for use with 6.

Well – how can i give these headphones a high enough review?. The sound quality is quite amazing – it’s difficult to explain – the best way i can describe the difference is a grainy pictorial image being brought to a full 3d image – total clarityi followed a previous reviewers advice and “run in” the headphones for about 20 hours – then let rip – songs you have listened to for hours sound like you are hearing a whole new level of sound. The ear pieces sat very comfortably – they look amazing – very classy appearance. The packaging is understated but you feel that you are opening up a delicacy. The price tag is eye watering – but if you want the highest audio experience then these are for you. I tested on a flight too – and was impressed by the external noise reduction enabling me to close my eyes and enjoy music throughout the flight. These headphones surpass my ability to describe – they are totally amazing.

I bought b&w’s first headphones, the p5, when they were released. They sounded very good, but i found them unbearably uncomfortable after even a short time; the clamping force was too high for the small earpads. Fortunately, they subsequently released the p7, which used around-ear rather than on-ear cushions, and i replaced my p5s with them. The p7 has been my favourite headphone ever since, but when the p9 was released, i did wonder just how it could be worth over twice the price of the p7. Well, i’ve now had the chance to find out. The p7 is still a very good headphone, but if you are thinking of buying the p7, i would strongly recommend that you don’t listen to the p9 first, as you may find yourself spending more money than you had planned. The first impressions are of a very high-quality product. The packaging displays apple levels of sophistication, and in addition to the headphones themselves, you get a total of three cables – two short ones, one with an apple remote control in the wire, and a long 5m cable for use at home.
