‘be the first to review’ i was urged, so here it is,hot off the press. My normal listening is via headphones, but i thought i would like some music to fill the pad while there’s nobody around to complain. I was going to buy the a2’s, but saw there was an improved model, and so i chose these, despite there being no customer feedback, bit of a risk. They were shipped out quickly from amazon at little cost to hungary, quite impressed by that. Also highly impressed by the packaging and accessories, all the wires and connections, rapid set-up. The speakers are very chunky and neat, creating a modest yet commanding presence on your desktop. They are very versatile: you can run them straight from your laptop via usb as they have a built-in dac, or from your iphone, walkman or separate pre-amp through a 3. I rigged them up to run from my headroom mini dac/pre-amp combo, with output to powered speakers.
Excellent sound in a small package. . I highly recommend these speakers to anyone looking for high quality sound but also a small form factor. I run the speakers through a xonar d2x sound card and i cant imagine audio quality getting much more crystal clear than it does with these. The only down side i can think of is that it only has one sound jack so i have to swap the audio cable over between my pc and xbox. This can be solved by buying a decent quality double headphone jack(don’t by a cheap one as it ruins the sound quality as i found out). For the money they are a very solid product indeed.

Phenomenal sound quality for size – but needs thorough breaking in to get it fully. I bought these from another supplier (ecodigital), because the white version, which i wanted, was out of stock here at that time. It’s best that i explain at once that i am a composer (classical) and recordist of natural soundscapes, so the term ‘audiophile’ does not describe me precisely enough; i’m used to listening into the nature of sounds in a very analytical way as well as aesthetically, and wanting them reproduced accurately rather than necessarily pleasingly. I wanted the a2+ speakers to replace my old creative i-trigue computer speakers. Really i wanted the audioengine a5+ model, but simply hadn’t got the space for those on my computer desk. Actually i got off to a bad start with this model. The first pair that i received were remarkably lacking in bass (which is widely claimed to be ‘deep, rich and tightly focused’ in this model, but certainly wasn’t like that at all for me), and were brash and aggressive in their upper range – this sounding like much more than their just needing breaking in. They sounded like the rather boxy and aggressive sound, lacking in real bass, that i associate with the majority of modern tvs. Very disappointing and indeed baffling after all the hype and glowing reviews for this modeli contacted ecodigital about this, and they immediately said this had to be a fault, and actually wanted me to return the pair (i was impressed). At my request they very willingly extended the period in which i’d be entitled to a full refund upon return, as i wanted to check out the odd other alternatives before choosing finally whether to accept a refund or a replacement pair.
I bought these speaker after some research and lots of thinking. Since i purchased them i haven’t been sorry for one day. They really are a great little speakers, and they looks good. What a difference they make, it’s unbelievable. Sound quality is just greati’m not gone be all technical, because you can read all that in description. All i’m saying if you step up from £30 speakers to these you will be amazed. The sound is crisp and clear all the way from lows to highs and bass is good for size of speakers. Don’t expect bass, like from woofer when all your things on table are just shaking, that’s not gone a happen. Build quality is impressive, setting up is easy and straight forward. To get the best sound you will need some quality files to play, but don’t make this all to complicated for yourself, because chances are you my not even hear the difference between loosles files and mp3. These are middle of the road speakers, for people who like to listening music but want something better than build in speakers or cheap computer speaker. If you are hi-fi guy you probably not even gone look at these. Conclusion – if you can afford it and looking for something which will improve your listening experience and will look good on your table, these are speakers for you.
These just sound awesome on the desktop. They provide a really well defined sound stage and crisp clear audio. I like the clean silk black finish, which is elegant and unobtrusive; they go very nicely with a black monitor and keyboard. I’ve been listening to these for a couple of months now, mostly for classical and acoustic music, along with films and video. They do a great job with all of it. I’m really glad of the upgrade from the totally adequate sounding bose companion 2 series iii multimedia speaker system – black – worth every bit. I guess that i prefer the sound from my monitor audio bronze 2 walnut in the living room, but that is not really a fair comparison (they are much larger speakers together with a good quality separate amp).
Audioengine A2+R Powered Desktop Speakers (Pair) – Glossy Red : After some research, we purchased these audioengine a2+w speakers to replace our broken corsair sp2500’s, that we have had since july 2012. We have been using these a2+w’s since april 2017. Note, we aren’t audiophiles, but we like to think that we can tell the difference between good & bad sound quality. Here is our experience thus far.
