Decent laptop but has a lot of issues. 99 core i7 4gb ram version of this laptop in september 2014, and have been consistently using it as my main laptop ever since. I initially bought it because of it’s high specs and good reviews, but there’s lots of nuances about this laptop that have annoyed me. Pros:• smart gesture keyboard is very nice and comfortable to use for a laptop in this price range. Never overheats or feels uncomfortable for the fingers. Quite intuitive, though there have been instances where it is unresponsive. • audio output is quite good, usually with other laptops in the past i’ve always had to augment the sound with usb speakers or similar. At least with these ones they’re quite loud. Cons (unfortunately this is a much longer list):• no backlit keyboard.
– great spec for the price (£360)- when ordered from amazon it actually came with 6gb ram and 750gb hdd. Downside is obviously windows 8. Awful compared to windows 7. Also, only integrated graphics, but what can you expect for the price.
Love the laptop but it still has a couple of small faults. I am not used to a full touchpad and usually when i try to click something i move the cursor somewhere else. I didn’t think it would be a problem when i purchased it but it has turned out to be a lot more annoying that i thought it would. Secondly, there is only two usb ports and they sit right beside each other so i can never use to usb pens or my hard drive at the same time. Overall it is still a great laptop. I love how it feels so thin and light. It works and starts up really fast. Here are the specifications for the ASUS X550CA-XX985H 15:

Good laptop with old version of windows 8. A good price for a competent laptop. 0 which needed in excess of 100 updates (which took several hours) before i could install windows 8. That was the only black mark against this purchase. Delivery was prompt by market place vendor.
Easy to set up and get going. A lot of people complain about windows 8 but if you have been keeping up with trends you won’t have an issue with this. I guess if you are leaping from xp or vista. Well then welcome to this decade and things have moved on. Can’t say that i’ve got any issues and i love the hdmi plug which allows me to plug it into my tv.

- What a laptop!!!
Overall i’m pleased with this laptop and consider it good value for. Overall i’m pleased with this laptop and consider it good value for money. On the plus side, the core i3 processor and 8gb memory result in good performance and it runs quietly. Also, my old versions of 32bit software, office etc work fine. The battery life is not brilliant, about 2. There are only two usb ports which of course i knew before purchase but i did find that restrictive. I fixed it by buying a £10 hootoo port expander. The big problem as noted in many other reviews is that it ships with windows 8. It’s true that you’ll need a good day to get it to a usable version, (windows 8. I know that it’s microsofts fault that windows 8 is rubbish but i do think asus should ship their systems with a usable operating system to avoid a shedload of negative publicity. Many customers will not know how to go about upgrading and will expect to be able to use the laptop out of the box.
The display is nice (shiny screen fyi). Delivered fast, set up in 5 minutes, it’s just as fast/faster than any laptop i’ve used (i5), the display is nice (shiny screen fyi), the keys make typing fun, the trackpad i’m still adjusting to, but is completely fine. The sound quality is great, the resolution is tolerable but expected for the price range. It’s very light and thin – i’m used to sturdier lenovos but this feels very stylish. It hasn’t forced me to update to windows 8. 1, so far there’s been no hassle and no drama.
