ASUS X540LA 15 : Cheap but a lot of corners have been cut

Good quality computer, easy to set up and use.

It’s doing what it said it would do.

Looked around for a long time to find a laptop that would meet my needs this one does everything i want it to do it’s very fast easy to setup the picture quality is brilliant very good buy would recommend. Here are the specifications for the ASUS X540LA 15:

  • Enter your model number
    to make sure this fits.
  • The ASUS X540 Series is powered by Intel processors to give you a smooth and responsive computing performance
  • It has a solid and lightweight chassis that weighs just 1.9 kg – ideal to take with you when you’re out and about
  • ASUS IceCool Technology gives X Series an internal design that addresses uncomfortable heating issues by preventing heat build-up under the palm rest
  • The reversible USB Type-C port makes connecting devices much easier and gives you super-fast USB 3.1 Gen 1 speeds of up to 5 Gbit/s
  • Includes 1 month Trial for new Microsoft Office 365 customers

Cheap but a lot of corners have been cut. The good:nice bright displaynice designkeyboard feels good if not a little ‘soft’trackpad works smoothly, built in software recognises gestures wellreasonably quick processor for day to day tasksusb c, very useful for modern android devices and future proof. The bad:no 5ghz wifi antennasingle channel ram (upgrade would require 1 x 8gb drr3l sodimm)no ssdonly 720p screenlots of bloatwarerecommendation:i think whilst it looks like a great deal, there are one too many sacrifices made, the lack of 5ghz wifi is a big one for me as i (wrongly) assumed it would be included by default. 1080p would also be nice but on this screen size 720p is just about sharp enough to not look blurry. I heavily recommend upgrading this with an ssd. Installing one is really easy and it completely transforms the feel of the laptop. I opted to use a hdd caddy to turn the disk drive into an additional hdd slot so i could retain the original drive for storage. I also at the same time upgraded the ram but as mentioned, it must be an 8gb single chip as its only single channel so adding a 4gb chop to the soldered 4gb will still only show 4gb.

Fit for purpose and easy to use. Fit for purpose and easy to use. I’m not a fan of windows 10, and haven’t quite warmed to using it. The keyboard is a bit light and tappy, and the mouse pad a bit indecisive. Overall – fine for basic home use. I’ve used a lenovo for 10+ years so this is a nice, lighter model that does what i need it to do.

Reviews from purchasers :

  • Solid Performer at the Price Point
  • Fit for purpose and easy to use
  • Great value laptop

It’s quite good, but slower than i expected. Also, windows 10 has problems for running chrome.

Good quality computer, easy to set up and use.

This was a present for my wife for christmas and she loves it. Good performance and decent sized screen.

I like the lightweight feature and that the trial version of office 365 was included.

This is a really good laptop for school work and very casual gaming (i. This is a really good laptop for school work and very casual gaming (i can play cod black ops 2 zombies just fine with average 37 fps with low settings) however if you want to play more demanding games you would need to upgrade the ram to 8gb. But this is not a gaming laptop, it is very good for school work and general use, but i would strongly advise upgrading to an ssd as this boost the performance dramatically (if you don’t mind voiding the warranty) the keyboard is very good and fees very nice to type on and the track pad is accurate but the clicking is very loud but that not a deal breaker. The fan is reasonably quiet however it does get much louder under heavy load. The screen is ok gets reasonably bright but the viewing angles aren’t the best. Lots of ports and the usb c connector is a nice addition. Over all this is a very good laptop for the price with fast performance and a nice keyboard. Perfect for anyone who wants to use it for school. I have the i5 and upgraded to an ssd.

Solid performer at the price point. Bought as a christmas present, although had to return the first one due to a problem with the track pad being intermittent. The laptop itself is a very nice one, with a gold keyboard area which certainly makes it stand out. It has a lovely screen, bright enough, good quality display and speakers that aren’t that bad. Let’s remember this laptop is not high end – it only comes with 4gb of ram that should be fine for most people, and a 1tb hard drive is probably more than enough storage (although it is my intention to swap this for an ssd which i know will boost the performance significantly). Bear in mind the 1tb drive included is very sloowwww as there is loads of unnecessary bloatware installed. We have since burned a back up disc and reformatted the drive just with windows 10 – the laptop performs much, much faster even with a raft of new programs installed (office, skype, acrobat, photoshop and more). Battery life seems adequate, we have had this machine on battery for web browsing, and it has kept alive for over 2 hours so that’s not bad at all. Keyboard is nice to use, but the proximity of the power button to the number pad and it being a normal looking key means you can sometimes accidentally touch it putting the laptop into sleep modeit’s quite heavy at just under 2kg, and although the pictures will make the machine look like it has been made of metal it’s not. It’s plastic, although it has a brushed look and is actually quite nice.
