Good for the price, works well in fair conditions but don’t expect miracles and check the speed measurement. To get video working on my pc with the software supplied i had to find and download a codec and the first one i tried was blocked by my anti-virus so users may need a certain level of computing expertise and don’t try this if you don’t have anti-virus on your computer. I need to check the displayed speed with a separate gps, as the speed displayed on the video footage is about 10% slower than the speed displayed by the playback software, and both are a little lower than i’m expecting – annoying if they’ve decided to make it look as if people who are speeding are not speeding; for the law-abiding driver using video as evidence after a crash could lead to a false prosecution for lane-hogging if you’re actually doing 72 m. And the video shows you’re doing 60 in the middle lane. I know my car speedometer over-reads but not by 20% (previously checked with a map and stopwatch and a gps). Picture quality is good but not as good as the more expensive top-of-the-range nextbase which is a strong competitor here in the uk – the lack of polaroid means you get some reflections from the asus. Picture looks a bit pixelated and hd is not much better than the lower resolution – sometimes can read license plates but only really if the vehicle is quite close. In good light, about 50% of oncoming traffic plates can be read on a single-carriageway road at speeds of around 30 m. , fewer at higher speed which is perhaps slightly less than the nextbase. It seems you get what you pay for and this camera is a reasonably competitive priced and i’m keeping it because the slight improvement in picture quality for the nextbase (which i returned to the shop) is not worth paying 50% extra in my opinion.
The only reason that i haven’t given this five stars is because it turns itself off & back on again with annoying regularity. It isn’t the power plug – that is a good fit in the cigarette lighter socket, so i assume that it is the device itself. Other than that, it is a good device – the quality of the recording is excellent, & the fact that it is linked to a gps track is also brilliant.

to make sure this fits.
- HDR (High Dynamic Range) technology ensures the DVR to catch every detail in your drive no matter it is in limited or high contrasted lighting environments.
- The external GPS records the whole driving track. Using the bundled PC player, the playing video connects Google map through the internet and shows the driving track correspondingly.
- The built-in G-sensor triggers emergency record and auto file protection. Manual file protection is another choice for recording the moment that a collision event occurs.
- Has passed all CE/FCC/BSMI/CCC certificates, ensuring it won’t have signal interference with other car-used devices.
- The 140 degree wide view angle allows the DVR to record every detail from front view with no blind spot. Vehicles coming from both right and left side can be clearly recorded.
First impressions: easy to set up (more so when i read the instructions) it hadn’t occured to me that the output files are operating system dependant. I run mac so cannot use the media player but since the files load into iphoto without problem this suits me. Apparently one can trace the journey on a map using the media player; why anyone would want to do that escapes me. Once i have finalised on the settings i dont expect to look at the video files unless they are needed for insurance purposes or in case of an accident. I am wondering about buying another one of these to look out of the back of the car, but want a bit more experience with it first.
Superb quality, easy to use dash cam. Excellent quality camera, easy to set up and great field of vision. The supplied power cable is easily long enough for you to be able to hide it all the way back to the 12v supply.
I’ve had a couple of dash cams. This one was the easiest to set up. The others had barely intelligible instructions and what i could understand was vague. I was up and running with this asus reco within minutes.
ASUS Reco Classic Car Dash Cam, 1080p Full HD, 140 Degree Wide-Angle Lens, Day/Night Recording : Excellent purchase – better than the nextbase dash cam – 100% better in picture quality and userablity. I have had the product now for 4 days and its so easy to use with excellent product guide and really easy to install and use app both available to use on android and ios. I have previously used the next base pro and found that to be very clunky and slow however the reco is fast and easy and provides excellent images. *excellent value for money*the features of the product are brilliant such as hdr – i gave this over to my boyfriend to use on a weekend car drive in the night and the picture quality was perfect. It was also surprising at how much it included within the angle of footage for such a small camera. This is a must for any long drive drivers and also is a excellent and affordable product which does everything and more that you ask of it. Definitely a must ahead of any other dash cam – well done asus.
