I bought this to replace my old pc, and have not regretted doing so. It is three times more powerful, very slim, and i can carry it about easily.

Good compromise of price, portability, battery life and functionality. After spending months researching and looking at alternatives, including reading about the forthcoming haswell cpus, i bought the acer aspire m5-581tg with the 128gb sdd on 29/4/13. I am very pleased with my purchase and i wish i had bought it months ago. Sound, screen, tracking pad and keyboard are all good. After i loaded a few regular programmes (office, skype etc) i found that there is 63gb of the original 128gb memory free. Whilst haswell, widi, 256gb sdd and a 9 hour battery life were on my ideal wish list, i did not want to wait longer & pay more so the m5 is a great compromise for my needs. Pros: thin and light for its 15. 6′ size, start up in 2-20 seconds, good battery life (looks like 4-5 hours in real world times), stunning speed. Cons: windows 8 but the third party app start8 seamlessly by passes win8. Overall a very good package for my needs, which are mainly ms office, email, internet, youtube & bbc iplayer.

Aesthetically pleasing with decent performance. . I have had this laptop for three days. Pros- very nice design, aluminium/plastic combo. – gt730m one of the latest nvidia card for 2013. – battery life (based on ssd version) 5hrs+ avg so far. – ports on the rear (personal preference). Cons- screen resolution on the low side (1366×720)- heavier than an ultrabook- base gets quite hot when gaming- battery not user replaceable (although good for 1000+ recycles)overall i am pleased with my purchase and i believe it is a fair price.

Reviews from purchasers :

  • Good compromise of price, portability, battery life and functionality
  • Aesthetically pleasing with decent performance.
  • good product but few annoing things

Like the way the board lights up, easy to get into. Main complaint is the sound. The reviews i read suggested it was good and i find it a bit tiny.

This review is from : Acer Aspire M5-581TG 15.6-inch Laptop (Silver) (Intel Core i7 3517U, RAM 6GB, SSD 128GB, DVDSM DL, LAN, WLAN, BT, Webcam, Nvidia Graphics, Windows 8)

Good product but few annoing things. I have buyed the laptop from warehouse deals. Has a few minor scraches and it was not in the original package and inside was no user manual or other things except the charger but the price was accordingly. The description mentioned all those aspects. Good build, good quality materials, good performance, decent battery life but not perfect. I have rated 4 stars mainly from 2 reasons:- the hdd bay is empty so you can think to add a hdd since you have only 128 gb. According to acer the cable which connects the motherboard with the hdd is missing and seems inposible to find one at a reasonable price (at least in my country). An external hdd seems to be the solution- in gaming becomes very hot but not due to the cooling system which seems to work just fine. There is not enough space between the bottom of the laptop and the table. On the table the cpu is going over 90 c but once you add something on the bottom to have more space stays at 80 c. An laptop cooler or just a support will do the job.
