This laptop is just what i was looking for. While being a macophile, i am not the sort that must have every bit of the latest cool extras that some people froth over. However, having used macs for over 15 years i dont need a great deal of instruction to be able to make full use of the machine straight out of the box. I needed a laptop that could cope with my firewire transparency scanner, while running a web browser and my watching a dvd simultaneously. This can do all these and probably more without showing signs of crashing or slowing down. The airport receiver seems to pick up signals in more remote locations, that my old laptop could not (although i suppose that might be due to a signal improvement over the last 6 months). I have yet to make use of the camera, as i doubt anyone wants to see my ugly features any more than necessary. My only disappointment is that the 7 hours battery life on one charge may start off showing those figures, but pretty soon drops to 3 hours once the machine has been working for a few minutes. But overall, i am one very happy bunny.

Always do an online shop prior to return and just thought that i would find it really useful. It was my sixtieth birthday present, so obviously, you don’t need a degree to operate it. It’s fairly light weight and after an hour or so i had mastered the basics – i wouldn’t be without it now.

Performance -i decided to move from a dual core windows pc to a macbook pro, as i didn’t feel i required a desktop for the tasks that i used it for. Being a keen photographer i wanted it to run photoshop smoothly so opted for the faster dual core 2. It doesn’t sound like much of an upgrade, but the new sandybridge chips really do increase the efficiency and speed of the processor. The only program it seems to struggle with is aperture. Although everyone seems to be struggling with that so hopefully that is due to the software. Design & build -the macbook pro really is a thing of beauty. There isn’t a single part that looks like it was rushed or not thought through correctly, even down to the laser engraved hole for the led light next to the face time hd camera. The build quality is as good as everyone has come to expect from apple, it feels very solid (not too heavy though) and built to last. Storage & screen -the 500gb hard drive which is standard is a perfectly good size, especially for a laptop. Unless you record or download lots of hd movies i can’t see it ever filling up. I’ve had a look and in the future i may consider removing the dvd drive and replacing it with a ssd to store all programs on. My brother has a new macbook air and i believe the sdd provides a significant boost in speed to programs to warrant changing it.

I have had this computer for a month now and i love it. It is my first experience with apple not having any of their other products but when my 2 year old sony vaio died i thought i’d try apple for a change. Coming from windows it was quite different but with a little bit of muddling it was easy to set up and within 20 minutes was hooked up to my router, printer, email accounts and the internet. I know that this is more expensive than a ‘regular’ laptop but the build quality is fabulous, it is lightening fast – both to boot up and when rendering internet pages – and the trackpad with the gestures of swiping and tapping to move around and between pages is just a joy. It is incredibly intuitive and natural, so much so that i now find it frustrating when i use the trackpad on a work laptop. Initially i was worried about the 13inch screen as my previous laptop was 15 inch, but it is excellent and i don’t miss the larger screen at all. The quality of the picture is beautiful and i can ‘pinch to zoom’ if i want to make anything bigger. I found the file structure and how it works a little confusing but after downloading a tutorial app from the app store (i bought ‘tutor for lion’ but there are others) all was made clear and i found lots of different ways to tweak the system and use the different programs that the mac comes with. I know that flash can be buggy on macs so instead i use google chrome to look at flash enabled websites and this works perfectly and i downloaded vlc so i could watch wmv files (windows video files).

I expected quite a lot from this purchase. Perhaps i had used widows too long. I don’t think the laptop is better than a windows machine, and i don’t think apple is better than microsoft. I have been tempted to load windows onto it, as quite a number of people have. I do like the size, and i like the keys. But i wish i had spent £1200 on a top windows laptop instead. One of the annoying things is trying to get data transferred, and having to do without programs which work on a pc. Software is fairly reasonably priced though. My view is that apple mac is over-priced and over-hyped.

The macbook is in a different league in terms of build quality, speed and ease of use. Pages and keynote were easily and cheaply downloaded from the app store and these are as user friendly as word and powerpoint. There were some initial issues with flash videos and youtube on safari but a quick download of mozilla has sorted this. It took no time to connect to wifi router and printers. The interface of a customisable dashboard is impressive, as is the sound quality (with or without headphones). The touchpad mouse is very intuitive – an issue now is when i use non-apple laptops the mouse seems odd. Keyboard shortcuts are initially confusing – but google has all the answers. Photo booth and iphoto are excellent.

I’m still getting used to the macos since i was working with windows all my life. So, in my opinion, it’s not sooo true what people say that is easy to get used to a mac. I believe though that after i learn the basic shortcuts it will make my life easier. Still, i advice to buy it without a shadow of a doubt.

Having bought a 13″ macbook pro when they first came out in 2009, i’ve just replaced it with this model. 7 ghz i7 chip is a significant step-up from the previous core 2 duo. Indeed, many computer magazines are saying that this latest generation chipset represents a much more significant increase in processor power than previous speed bumps. You’ll notice that programs run significantly faster. I went for the macbook pro with the i7 chip, which is the slightly more expensive of the two 13″ models, because i wanted a visible upgrade in computing power.
